In 2012 / 2013, refurbishment work to the platforms, concourses and the booking hall at James Street station took place. This was as part of a £40 million investment from Network Rail, which saw all of the Merseyrail underground stations (excluding Conway Park) refurbished.
There are at least 4 separate routes (via Mount Vernon, via Maxwell Park, High Level via Cambuslang, Low Level via Rutherglen) from Glasgow Central to Newton (Lanark).
Blantyre was also in the original plans of the Clydesdale Junction Railway but was always served by the Caledonian Railway after being taken over by that railway prior to services commencing.
Another area with both a "Central" and a "West" stations is Acton. Acton Central is the one that is on the National Rail network (West Acton is on the Central Line).
Shrewsbury is served by trains to Machynlleth and Dovey Junction, then on to Aberystwyth or Pwllheli. West of Shrewsbury these services are controlled using the ERTMS signalling system.
