Platform 1 just down from the Costa coffee heading to the low level platforms, it did look a bit abandoned sadly, if it was open I'd have had a pint rather than a Latte as I waited for my Nottsbus,I'm not aware that Retford station has had a pub.
I was last there in late 2022 and there wasn't and hadn't been a pub there then, so when did one even open?Platform 1 just down from the Costa coffee heading to the low level platforms, it did look a bit abandoned sadly, if it was open I'd have had a pint rather than a Latte as I waited for my Nottsbus,
That's the refreshment rooms, reopened for occasional viewings a couple of years ago. It was empty for a long time until then, I think. There's a plaque on the wall outside with some history about the rooms.Platform 1 just down from the Costa coffee heading to the low level platforms, it did look a bit abandoned sadly, if it was open I'd have had a pint rather than a Latte as I waited for my Nottsbus,
Missing your train just got a lot more bearable with the opening of a new bar at Edinburgh's Waverley Station.
Scottish brewery giant BrewDog officially opened its latest bar in the Capital on Wednesday, October 30, making it the perfect pit-stop before or after your journey.
The stylish new venue, which is the chain's fifth bar in the city after openings in the Cowgate, Lothian Road, New Street and the airport, sells a wide range of taps of craft beer, including favourites such as Punk IPA, Hazy Jane and Elvis Juice, and a range of spirits and cocktails.
There is also a food menu, with a range of pub classics on offer as well as BrewDog’s signature burgers and wings.
Commuters are being told to ‘pray for the delay’ with the opening of the new venue, which BrewDog expects to be a huge success.
Cathy Granby, Business Development Director, at SSP UK & Ireland, said: “We’re really excited to partner with BrewDog and open our latest bar together in Edinburgh Waverley Station. Edinburgh’s social scene is buzzing and now those passing through the station can come and enjoy a craft beer, glass of wine or a delicious cocktail to either get the night started or see them home.”
Agreed. Most pints I have in Wetherspoons are of excellent quality. As a CAMRA member and noting the number of Spoons in the Good Beer guide l would say that your dip in beer quality is utter rubbish.
Plus the food is served quickly AND with the sheer scale of most of their pubs you stand a chance of getting a table, both crucial if you want some food and drink before your train home. The problem sometimes is that in some places there may be a decent real ale pub or two but they may not open at all on Mondays or Tuesdays, or don’t bother opening until perhaps 4pm and then others close at 9 or 10pm midweek.
Like them or loathe them at least you know with Wetherspoons that they will be open all day, every day and food is served until 11pm.
How many times do you see a pub advertising serving food until 8pm and then approach the bar at 7.45-7.50pm and be told kitchen closed!
Wow, a combination of BrewDog and SSP. That sounds like a non-runner in the Value for Money StakesBrewDog have just opened a branch at Waverley (in partnership with SSP) replacing The Beer House (which was formerly known as the Nor Loch).
Bet it don't even have a slide, literally the only reason I'd use their Waterloo station pub, (yes I am a big kid)Wow, a combination of BrewDog and SSP. That sounds like a non-runner in the Value for Money Stakes![]()
Is that the one who had to change their name due to offending some people?I have just read that a new pub has opened just across the road from Blackpool North station. It's the Raleside Brewhouse, at 2a Bickerstaff Street in the building to the east of Sainsburys.
Who did it offend....the gateline staff across the road?Is that the one who had to change their name due to offending some people?
Prehaps, I belive it was gonna be called Trainwreck (similar to another business in their group Shipwreck)Who did it offend....the gateline staff across the road?![]()
The business had originally planned to use the name 'Trainwreck' inline with its other venue, called 'Shipwreck', which is located at Victoria Road West in Cleveleys, however the name was rejected by council officials.
A spokesperson for the new venue tells us:
"Introducing 'rALEside. The council and some members of the public didn't feel Trainwreck was the best image they wanted to project so we were more than happy to change the name." "I think there was a bit of soul searching but the council trust us to be responsible tennants [sic] (over an empty coffee house at least)"
It's just gained a bunch of new houses literally across the road, on the former maltings site, so that should provide some extra custom to help sustain it in these difficult times for the pub trade.Spent many a good few minutes in the 80s at the Victoria between the Derby and Leicester Skegs doing the 20s. Good to hear it is still top notch.
Do they make you pointlessly queue up outside it for several minutes before letting you in?I have just read that a new pub has opened just across the road from Blackpool North station. It's the Raleside Brewhouse, at 2a Bickerstaff Street in the building to the east of Sainsburys.
Passed it last night, looked fairly busy. Brewdog at Edinburgh Airport too which may be linked with SSP.BrewDog have just opened a branch at Waverley (in partnership with SSP) replacing The Beer House (which was formerly known as the Nor Loch).

Visiting The Brunswick today, in a couple of hours, along with another almost-station pub, The Victoria, right opposite the station.Very much off topic, but the Brunny (Brunswick) close to Derby station is very much on my 'favourites' list.![]()
Or is it supposed to appeal to (what I assume is a large amount of) US tourists, even if Irish bars are not so fashionable with Brits these days?Apparently, the Maltings in York, mentioned up-thread and which was the nearest decent place to the station until the York Tap opened, is to become an Irish Bar. Are these back in fashion nowadays?
I wonder if the Beer House is going to be converted into a BrewDog as has happened at Waverley?Currently no pubs at either Glasgow Central or Queen Street, although an All Bar One is supposed to open late 2025 in Central above the M&S.
Perhaps the Beer House will also have re-opened in Central before then.
I think Inverness and Edinburgh are the only Scottish city stations with pubs on the station.
I hope the new All Bar One at Central is cheaper than the one at New St. Peroni is £7.40 a pint!Currently no pubs at either Glasgow Central or Queen Street, although an All Bar One is supposed to open late 2025 in Central above the M&S.
Can't be doing with brewdog.
Over priced, over hyped nitrokeg.
The beer is however considerably better than the food!
