365526 isn't at Doncaster. One coach is at Hornsey (65919), the other two coaches were moved to RAF Spadeadam, Cumbria (65960 and 72291) last year.

There are also two 121s at Cardiff Canton (960302/303)

I just spotted this. As far as I was aware, 65919 is still at Wolverton (though now owned by FCC). Do you know for sure it has moved to Hornsey, and if so, when it moved please?

Thanks for confirming that. I've had doubts about the situation for quite a while, as 'warm store at Eastleigh' seems to have gained a life of its own amongst some enthusiasts, it seems to me a way of implying the 317/7s are ready to go at any time, but presumably like any pure AC units put there they would need a cabled shore supply.

I could understand the odd DC unit being successfully 'kept alive' though....

Warm storage for a train can be as simple as just powering them up and giving them a run around the depot every couple of weeks or more intensively giving them a few hours running around out of service, make sure things dont seize up and everythings still working. Its more about maintaining them in a state where they could be returned to service at short notice, as opposed to cold storage where they are just left and irregularly given an examine and possibly pilfered for spare parts to keep others running.

Similar warm storage/cold storage terminology applies to aircraft, military equipment and a few other vehicles.

...well of course, but the absence of any OHLE at Eastleigh works and in the surrounding area rather puts the mockers on that in the case of 317/7s doesn't it, which is what the main point was, and has been confirmed by 50047...

Not neccesarily no, chances increase of being taken out and have a bash around the network to keep in running order rather than round the depot. In the case of Arlington Fleet Services (Eastleigh) they have Translater cars, a pair of converted MK1s if I remember right.

Yes, but they don't actually do any of that, do they. The units are parked up, unpowered, and don't move around between translators or otherwise. Therefore to all intents they are not in warm store...

If you plug another EMU with a tightlock coupling into it (i.e a 319 or 508) then the 317 it should 'select back' I believe. It won't do the motors but I think it does the heat and light circuits nd would allow movement.

I seem to recall an E.C.S last year with a 319 hauling a 317 running via Denmark Hill.
