On Avanti to Manchester, smooth at the moment! Tricky part is getting from Piccadilly to Bolton, can't find a direct train running.

Have the option of getting to Oxford Road, even walking, for the 1527 dep P5.

Will check Victoria now!

Check the departures from Salford Crescent (SLD) to see what's running to Bolton. Then check which Manchester station it is running from.

XX02 appears to be running. Wonder if they've lost use of some platforms at Preston necessitating a thinning? The roof does tend to fall down in a light breeze.

Alternatively there are loads of buses on that corridor.

Everything seems to be running smoothly through Dawlish, for example 1S49 passed through 3 minutes early.

Wind at Exeter Airport has reported the highest gust being around 25mph in the last couple of hours and the wind is from the SW. As the line at Dawlish runs NE-SW, problems at Dawlish happen when the high winds are from the east.

What happens (would have happened?) if it couldn't have got back to the UK for a while and presumably without most passengers having passports on them?
Ryanair require passports even for internal UK (or Common Travel Area) flights so they'll all have had passports thankfully.

The thing is they haven't explained why and perhaps they don't have enough time to do so. So people will criticise them, even if it's unjust, as they dont know any better, as no one has told them.

People can be cynical. Some politicians forster such things withij people, with how they go on and what they say.
Across Teesside there is wind gust of up to 60mph, multiple Trees down, Lorrysy blown over.
I can image there is potential for trees on line, I would say it’s a sensible precaution.

Generally if it happens and there are people not entitled to enter the country they just stay airside. The comfort level of this depends on what facilities are there (e.g. some airports have airside hotels). Or sometimes special arrangements are made for them to enter temporarily.

Salford Crescent check is a good idea, the Barrow service misses it (I think) but that won't be running?

I'll have a closer look when we pass Crewe.

Huge tree down on Chorley New Road Bolton) earlier so hope it's cleared for my bus home!!

Barrow and Windermere are cancelled all day throughout, yes. Can't help but think they're also having a rest day volunteers issue - who'd volunteer to go out in this unnecessarily with a nonzero risk of ending up in close acquaintance with a tree, either when driving the train or driving your car to the booking on point?!

Not if you're under 16 travelling with an over 18. And it's "Any photo ID which matches the passenger’s name in the booking".

Okie dokie, I just took them at their word from their website:

What travel documents are valid and can be used for travel on Ryanair flights?

When travelling with Ryanair, we generally accept 2 forms of ID:
  • A valid passport;
  • A valid National Identity Card.
We do not accept a driver's license or birth certificate for travel to any location. It is each passenger’s responsibility to carry Photo ID which meets our requirements and the requirements of the relevant Immigration Authority.

There’s now a reduced service on the Electric lines to Shenfield, so at worst it’s Elizabeth line into London if GA are turning at Shenfield. Still nothing departing Liverpool Street currently it seems though.
If by reduced you mean nothing at all, you'd be right! Nothing has moved at Shenfield for over an hour now.

Yeah looks like it's now been suspended on the whole section to Shenfield, as the evacuation of the train is underway.

Thanks for that warning. My daughter is due to go back there tonight to Harold Wood but atleast she can stay with us if needed at Custom House.

Anyway just warned her

Thanks again.

Same here.
Ryanair UK Ts&Cs

DOMESTIC FLIGHT - TRAVEL DOCUMENTS ACCEPTED:

2.2 Domestic flights - photo ID accepted

UK
Aged 16 or over
  • Any photo ID which matches the passenger’s name in the booking
Aged under 16 and travelling with an adult aged 18 or over
  • No photo ID is needed

That's changed recently then. For many years (indeed ever since they switched to online check-in) passports were required.

ECML York-Newcastle seems to be limping through with most of the planned services running albeit with delays. If the forecast is right, the worst of the storm will have passed over northern England in the next hour.

I can't imagine it will be suspended all day, but likely to be some form of delays throughout afternoon and evening. Best keep an eye on the service periodically.

If you search Twitter, there's plenty Driving Licences are fine for UK Domestics until around 2018.
Anyway, this is off topic.

And yet the school trains ran and trees could have come down whilst they ran.

It is of course entirely possible that the worest of it is in between the school services and that all that might happen is some trees fall down whilst the children are in school and they get stuck whilst travelling home.

This is very useful. We have decamped to Costa with a good book and will try again later!

Sounds sensible! Not sure the state of the GA unit, but it sounds particularly bad so might be only 2 track railway Gidea Park-Shenfield for most of the rest of the day.

It's lucky EMR have a 4-car 158 on 1R76 as its now getting swamped with London bound passengers at Norwich.

She usually meets her other half at Whitechapel at 6pm but I can imagine it being very busy and she has a buggy and 2 kids with her.

She could go via Hornchurch on the district line but I can imagine that being just as busy.

Newcastle Airport seems to be a mixed bag. Ryanair have been diverting but everything else scheduled to run has been managing. Of course KLM have decided to cancel my flight anyway, having operated everything else of theirs

Metro also had various suspensions this morning (tree at Fawdon, bags on OHLE at Benton and Fellgate) but everything is open again - a roughly 24 min frequency on each line to manage driver resource/displacement for the moment.

Of course, but at Esk Valley speeds in daylight the chances of the train hitting one are fairly low - and a tree falling on the train even lower.
Northern have cancelled around half the service on all the routes they are running, not just Whitby.
