Have you not noticed the number of 455s and 458s that have been reactivated though since? Redistribution of 456 technicians has helped do this.
Interesting, thanks. I hadn't been following it in detail. How many 455s and 458s are now reactivated compared with, say, a couple of months ago?

Would Alstom (or the ROSCO) be paying for these overhauls on the old stock as compo for late deliveries of the 701s?

Comparing yesterday to 29/11.
455 12 more available.
456 12 less available.
(net increase in 24 coaches)
458 Same on both days curiously. But long stay units starting to come back together.

A quick flick through the thread mentions units returning to use and others being taken from the sidings into the shed for work. Mr Siemens Staines posts are quite useful info.

Thanks. So essentially more capacity available than in November.

Incidentally, seems to be a shortage of 458s at the moment as 455s have been regular substitutes on Reading services over the past few days.

from what i've seen is that theyve been substituting them with the 455s being used for the peak time rounders which have slowly been reinstated that sit in the international plats at off peak times atm

Not really due to 458 availability either. The two early afternoon Reading 455s allow the 458s on the diagrams to go to Clapham for CET, so makes the timetable more robust if you don't have to worry about unit displacement and rotation so much

Alstom/Bombardier have already paid out considerable liquidated damages due under the contract to Rock Rail who were original owners of the units before Akiem bought them out. As to what obligation the lessor would have to SWR isn't revealed in the reports and accounts.

What’s your source for Akiem now being the owner for the 701s, please, as I can find no reference to it.

Nothing on the Akiem or Rock Rail websites and the Rock Rail website lists the Class 701.

Believe its 458507 although part of it might be 458517.
Both went to long marston recently so it’s helpful to know that other vehicles are there as well.
It’s looking like a change off plan then. Instead of being split at long marston and being sent as four cars to widnes by rail with a coach from each 5 car being sent for scrap locally in the Stratford upon avon area.
The vehicles (x4) appear to be being sent by road?

What's the current status of 458505 please? Heard it had returned to service, definitely travelled yesterday in a vehicle ending in "05" (yes it was a 458 vehicle not a 460 vehicle), but RTT insists it wasn't 8505!

It is currently on 2C30 1054 Reading to Waterloo leading with U.458510 on the rear according to RTT.

One of only two pairs of 458s out on Reading services today, along with five pairs of 450s.

Rtt is only as reliable as the information fed into it by those in SWR. If stock is swapped it may not be updated until later in the day.

I had a 456+458+450 all on an ecs working according to rtt. What I actually took was a 444.

Indeed, 8-car Class 450 has dominated the Reading side today, working five out of seven Reading services, ALL Woking via Chertsey services and two out of five Windsor services.

Good afternoon live from reading station at 1420 hours on platform 4 458505 is on the front off 458510 having worked in from London Waterloo having its personal needs break before working the 1442 reading to London Waterloo.
MEANWHILE a hour earlier around 1325 37884 456004 456002 456023 to longmarston from Wimbledon.
37884 Cerberus the grim reaper.
However with 458505 in service on the reading juice rail platforms shortly after.

All over the place
For those interested in the 455s, here's a look at all 20 of the 455/9s'

Typically, the only SWR 455 I've yet to photograph (5848) was stuck at the back of Wimbledon Park cleaning shed. Does anyone know if this unit is likely to re-enter service? Cheers.

In the lift shop hopefully receiving a roof panel. If successful then can then have a new motor alternator and a return to service exam.
