That's cool! :)

So why are some of us advocating another pair of expensive platforms for a failed train? :o

Because the high level platforms normally have EMT trains in them. Not much spare capacity on them. Will get worse with the extra train on the MML

Sorry for going a bit O/T but I noticed a Brighton service this evening was formed of a single 377 [pretty sure it was the 1734 Bedford to Brighton, looked cosy at City Thameslink]

(And a good example of a 700 being able to make up lost time compared to a 319:

I'm guessing it was sent directly towards Bickley via Oprington, but managed to regain 13 minutes on route to Blackfriars)

Yes I was on that service. Driver said that the other 4 car unit had failed hence the short formation. Still, better 4 cars than 0 cars.

377515 (seen later at East Croydon on 1W64 2033 Brighton to Bedford) - splitting off a failed unit won't be an option after Sunday when the last 377/5 runs on the Thameslink route.

Which is what you'll get if a 700 suffers a similar fault. The perils of long fixed formation trains.

I was driving the 601 diagram mid week Bedford -beckenham-Bedford-st albans. First time on a 377 in a while. And they can still shift when needed on 1G84 100 mph all the way from cricklewood to harpenden junction. With greens all the way not even a struggle up napsbury bank.

Held up for a couple of minutes at Blackfriars this morning due to a door going unresponsive on the 700 in front of my train. A hi-vis on the platform had to release the doors using the external switch beside the rear cab before they could then be re-closed and the train set off on its way. Why is the driver not able to do this? Surely a stuck door module cannot prevent the driver from releasing the doors again for the whole train?

I think it's just easier and quicker for someone else to do it if they're about.

I just saw a class 700 at Hadley Wood being tested. Also there are a few being kept at hornsy depot.

One flew through Hatfield around 1400 southbound, originating from Cambridge.

I think we will see a lot more out and about before they start* in October.

* Sort of, if just two trains!

I'm intrigued by a couple of things on these.

1) 1st class section - why does it sound like there was a strong wind blowing through ajar window when the thing gets moving, as if the anti wheel slip mechanism was using air or something.

2) from the outside, when the doors close and driver releases the brakes it makes a series of quick pah pah pah pah pah's (I know it reads silly but that's how it sounds). Why does it do that rather than a single long pssssssssh? A fault perhaps?
