Blyth Valley - Never been anything other than Labour.
No, it's because it's the (new) Speaker's seat.
Thanks bothIt's the new speaker's constituency.
OMG even if they don’t quite take it that’s quite something.
This bloke is a nutter.
I have nothing against Tories whatsoever.
I just don't like selfish people.
I expect many NE towns to drift away from Labour. Look at what happens to places like Hartlepool. Brexit is the big driver for that coupled with Corbyn.
My big worry is that the shock of Brexit will be devastating to these same towns.
And that is of course the real problem. Until Labour are free of Momentum and their acolytes nothing will change. They might, I stress might, get rid of Corbyn but they'll only replace him with someone similar.
Those towns will get precisely what they voted for - what they don’t need is well meaning left leaning commentators telling them what they really voted for.
(and the exit poll doesn't count postal votes and there are a lot of them)?
Houghton and Sunderland South have returned to Westminster Bridget Phillipson with UKIP losing their deposit
Neither do I. What a radical statement.
Do you assume all tories are selfish?
I am really worried that solid labour seats in the North East will turn Tory on the back of getting brexit done.
thanks for your incisive comment and political analysis. Stick your "i'm all right jack" nonsense up your jumper please. I am fairly certain i have more knowledge and experience of these towns than you do.
I thought they stood in every constituency. Are there any others where they aren't standing?
Presumably they aren't standing in Chorley because it is the safest safe seat in the country?
My big worry is that the shock of Brexit will be devastating to these same towns.
Based on my ancestry and family history, I rather doubt that.
I can deliver plenty more political analysis if you’d like. It may not be to your liking, I’m afraid.
You know what? I don't care what happens to those towns. They got what they wanted. I, naturally, hope that Brexit will be a glorious success (because my livelihood depends on it). But when it isn't, well, I shan't be shedding many tears for the final demise of these towns.
Make bed, lie in bed.
Blyth Valley has gone Tory. Majority 712
TLDR - they didn’t vote the way you wanted them to, so they can now die in the mud?
I wonder if the penny will drop at Labour HQ - a lot of swing, and moderate voters, see Corbyn as the greater of two evils.
