Just remembered something else I was going to ask to see if anyone knew

How recently was the winner decided? I'm guessing it is recent but was the final boardroom done recently or two endings recorded?

Having said earlier that I thought the Apprentice was toot, I did succumb to the final last night.

It left me puzzled with one question: yes he's a nice bloke but is he really a businessman?

That's what I thought: the two compliment each other with their own individual skill set.

Seems the most likely explanation given that whilst Tom is a nice guy, he seems quite inexperienced away from inventing stuff.

In previous years they have recorded two endings, and in the time between the final episode being recorded and being aired the two finalists worked in one of Lord Sugar's businesses, and the week before the airing he told them who was hired. I don't know how they did it this year.

The main boardroom scenes are filmed at the end of the interview task (for the most recent series). The actual scene where he decides between the two candidates is filmed the day of broadcast, and slotted into the show. They only film one ending.

None them really shine to me, although I do like the creative mind of Tom, with all his inventions and creativity which I don't think others match.

Tom seemed to be able to convince everyone that he would be able to keep inventing new products for years to come. There seems no end to his ability to produce new product designs for many different products.

She has also had some experience in beauty products/pharmaceuticals. I am sure there was either a task on the Apprentice or an interview with Lord Sugar where he said he wished he had got into those markets with their margins (or am I not remembering correctly?). Maybe this could be a chance with her.

I'm interested to know what their business plans actually will be.

Suzie was robbed. She might have been naive but she was the only real entrepreneur among them. Also, she was bullied throughout the series, including by Karren, and I didn't like the way Helen and Tom sneered at her in the boadroom. Nick fancies her though and I'm sure she'll be more successful than any of them in future.

In the Apprentice: You're Hired afterwards, Sugar did hint that he may go into business with Suzie anyway - in his words "There may be a deal to be done".

You what? Her buisness plan was all over the place and she certainly was not bullied by Karren. I actually seem to remember Karren stuck up for her on several occasions.

Yep karen did stand up for her a lot.
The only time karen bullied her was when she asked those frankly idiotic questions in the french task.

Do french people love their kids?

Suzie wasn't bad at all (definitely worthy of being in the final) and she had done something, however her mind was on fantasy island, she wasn't being rational about what she could achieve.

If we go back to the Beauty task in Birmingham, where she completely overestimated what could be sold (by a LARGE amount) and if Zoe (?) hadn't reigned her in, she could have gone in that week.

I don't think Karren picked on her - she certainly is a lot more complementary than Margaret used to be about the candidates! In fact, I really used to like Margaret observing tasks, you knew exactly what she thought of it all...

The expression 'spare the rod, spoil the child' springs to mind (replace child with adult obviously) reading that post.
And judging from what Lord Sugar says, she may be involved with this business with him and Tom so I would hardly say she was 'robbed'.

Now that The Apprentice has gone perhaps we should switch our attention to Dragons' Den. Can't stand some of them - especially Peter Jones - but Hilary Devey seems very promising.

My wife said that. She could also go on any future remake of Dynasty (if set in the north of the UK).

She seems to want to give lots of advice, but I'd like to see when she begins to invest some money and what her actual skills are. So far she's just incredibly annoying, but I am sure Peter Jones planned this to ensure some controversy and a talking point. After all, the show is getting quite stale and I for one can't stand the ridiculous padding. What they show could fit in under 20 minutes if you took out the 'coming up, he's going to say this' and 'and he just said that'.

Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MFtl2XXnUc

You are right, it has become stale. I haven't bothered with this series. I believe Hilary has been on some other TV programmes, every time I see her I have a mental image of a large mansion and a trendy bar, but I can't remember what the programme was!

I disagree. The format might be well-worn but the fresh new pitches and the entrepreneurs that come up the stairs help to keep the show interesting.
