Heavenly Creatures

The actress who played the mother was just too good an actress

Martyrs was disturbing in that it actually dares to pretend to be some sort of profound artsy film rather than the sordid POS torture porn flick that it really is.
(And the fact so many people give it >1 on IMDB)

the original "wicker man" shook me up the first time i saw it but i can now watch it & appreciate it. that can NOT be said of the "human centipede"! i thought MY mind was warped until i saw that. WTF x 100!! i remember being spooked out by "threads",mainly because nuclear war involving this country was a very real prospect in the 1980s. at least the first two films i mentioned were only ever fictional.

Human centipede I wouldn't class as a horror film, but it is very, very, very wrong. And quite disgusting really. Personally, I worry for the person who wrote the screenplay.

I agree with you. It is just wrong. And disgusting. What kind of person comes up qwith that? How do you get it into production?

The most disturbing TV program I've seen is ghostwatch. Not real - a mockumentary - an ****ing scary!
.

I have ghost watch on DVD. Mike Smith, Sarah Green, Craig Charles and Micheal Parkinson.

I remember the halloween night this was shown. My parents would not allow me to watch it so i sneaked into my brothers room and we watched it together.

It was terrifying at the time, and was very well acted by the cast, it was so believable, i also remember the rumpus it caused!!!

I just to love to watch it now for the entertainment of it. It was worth the £50 it cost me!!!

Pahh that film was cack! Everyone bangs on about how good it was but to me it was just like a film version of Most Haunted! I nearly fell asleep watching it.

Agreed! She was being haunted by big bird. I almost wet myself at those foot prints!!

My brother's wedding video was pretty scary...

As for 'proper films', there were some horrible ones about cannibals around in the early
1980's, which I found quite disturbing at the time.

I'd say Takashi Miike's Visitor Q or Gaspar Noe's Irreversible. Both feature very graphic and unforgettable imagery!
However, the most disturbing film I've seen by far is a documentary about a murder case called Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father. There is nothing viscerally disturbing about it but the course of events which is documented is absolutely unbelievable and heartbreaking... I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it be sure to watch it knowing little about it.

Cant say horrors really bother me, probably the most disturbing film i have seen was Cape Fear (1991 version) when i was age 12.

I was looking at that one in Blockbuster the other day. Decided to go for Shutter Island instead!

Not disturbing as such (but still quite odd) is Takashi Miike's attempt at a Musical - The Happyiness of the Katakuris

Man bites dog, camera crew follow round a serial killer who moves on to rape and mutilation.

Came out at the same time as Reservoir Dogs, but nothing was said about MBD as it's an art film (i.e. in French)

I agree but 'Once upon a time in America' is just as good if not a slightly better gangster film, in my opinion.

I haven't seen that one. If I was to take three gangster films to a desert island, they'd be the Godfather, Reservoir Dogs and The Untouchables.

Going back onto topic, has anybody seen the film 'Seven', where people are getting murdered because of the seven deadly sins? That was slightly disturbing, but a masterpiece all the same!

I forgot about Goodfellas!

Ok then, change of plan, I'll be putting the Untouchables back and taking that instead! The Goodfellas was probably the first half decent gangster film I ever saw!

The title alone is giving me the creeps!

More than the creeps! I could only stomach about 5 minutes of this disgusting excuse of a film. I dropped in about half way through whilst channel hopping and was stunned that such a sick and depraved piece of garbage would ever have made it to the screen! I've heard they're even going to make a sequel! Jeez!

Are my family the only ones who collapsed laughing a quarter the way through Ghostwatch then?

It was obvious it wasn't live right from the start - the Ceefax subtitles were far too good for it to have been anything other than a pre-recorded thing...;)

I knew it wasn't real - but the way it was done was brilliantly scary.
