Having just watched the original 'Salems lot' when the dead boy (now a vampire) is seen floating outside at the top window, surrounded in a fog, scratching to get in, and leaving me hiding under a cushion, I was just wondering what film can you remember that has really disturbed you in some sort of way?

Men Behind The Sun, without question. Some parts can be a bit cheesy, but others are actually rather horrific.

It's on YouTube. Don't watch it if you've got a weak disposition.

Twilight! Most disturbing thing was the though that I was going out with someone who thought it was good (and thought Lord of the Rings was rubbish).

The Wicker Man (original version)- what an ending-- i've still never stayed on a Scottish island lol.

The Crying Game was pretty bloody disturbing too.....I was never confused......

Jaws. Saw this in Stirling in 1976 and as a 9½ year old it frightened the living daylights out of me, especially when the head came out the bottom of the boat.
Still have a few butterflies now if I ever watch it. Creepy..... :|

The Orginal and the poor modern verisons of Wicker man were fantastic :) but then has put me going off going to those Scottish Islands.

One series i find disturbing, and in my opioin should be banned due to glamourizing Torture etc is the Saw series, i can not stand them.

Another disturbing film is the Modern verison of House on Haunted Hill.

Has to be Threads, the BBC film of a Soviet nuclear attack on the UK, where Sheffield was the city in the film. Remember watching it in secondary school, I was horrified for days after it!

Yes I'll agree with you there, I've seen it too and it really was quite a bizarre and disturbing film.

That film is horrible! I'd probably say its the most disturbing I've seen. We had to watch it at school and it really scared some of us. It seemed so realistic, and with it being set quite local to us it made for uncomfortable viewing.

I have it on BBC DVD. It's an excellent account of post war Britain. I wouldn't say it disturbs me, but it surely is one of thr most depressing pieces of TV / Film that I have ever seen.

I'm not exactly a huge LOTR fan, but the rest of this is surely the best answer this thread will see! I would sooner watch Spice World.

My answer would be Saw 3. I was fine with it, but the girls who asked me to watch it with (so that had someone else around ) were frightened to death, even though they'd seen it before [I hadn't]...

Threads is definitely very disturbing, especially if you live in the area concerned!

Just YouTube'd it. Got ten seconds in (after the scene of the boy in bed, where you can see the figure closing in on the window) and stopped. Did look quite scary, unfortunately things like that and ghost stories always stick in the front of my mind, so I don’t think I’m gonna carry on watching!

EDIT - Got to 00:50, where the bloke is getting out of bed, and I bottled it. Ho-hum.

On the subject of scary movies, what's the really famous scene of that shadow walking upstairs?

On a similar note, I always find the "Protect and Survive" cartoons a little unnerving. I think it's the combination of the bagpuss style animation and the sense of imminent doom (along with the creepy signature tune) that does it:

All nonsense of course, but imagine the shock if it came on instead of Crossroads or Three-Two-One (or any equivilent triumph of 80's programming)!

Yes, thats the one!

It's about a lady who suffers sexual attacks by a 'ghost' What disturbed me the most was the claim at the end that it was based on true events!!!

I was horrified and terrified! I will never watch it again, even though i'm now in my thirties!

I'm not surprised Threads has come up more than once - not sure if this might not come under the "drama documentary" category rather than film though... I watched Threads recently on YouTube and had to stop at 27 minutes in and had nightmares for a week afterwards and felt distinctly odd for a fortnight.

These do not technically count as films, but those 1970s M R James Ghost story adaptions could get rather scary at at times.(Cough Cough, no diggin' 'ere (maybe worth a Google/YouTube of "A Warning to the Curious" to see what I mean ) The 1970's adaptation of the Dickens story "The Signalman" with a rather stressed out Denholm Elliot also springs to mind.

Human Centipede is a VERY strange film about some demented surgeon. It is crap but disturbing/disgust

Threads is actually frightening. I echo the "strange feeling" about that film

Two Girls One Cup takes some beating.

In terms of movies, I found the whole concept behind 'Boxing Helena' very disturbing.

The most disturbing TV program I've seen is ghostwatch. Not real - a mockumentary - an ****ing scary!

With regards to films, I'm too much of a wimp. Scariest film I've seen is Rebecca.

I concur. Whilst is not particularly graphic, its very wrong. It seemed to stay with me for quite a while afterwards. I believe a sequel is currently in the making.

Surely not!

I agree that whilst not graphic the subject content is just very wrong - It has a cult following amoungst horrorists by all accounts!!!!!!!

How do you get a successful pitch out of the idea of sowing three people together to make on person? I am out!

I remember seeing a rather good Australian film called "Patrick" a few years ago about a chap in a coma who murders people by telekinisis. Quite jumpy in places.

Shock horror but I've never seen any of these listed in this thread!

The most disturbing ones I have seen (maybe it's just me who classifies them as disturbing) is The Ring and Paranormal Activity!

Spice world! lets not say things we cant take back.

Saw 3 or any of the saw movies infact are prob the most disturbing movies i've seen. The're not scary or anything, i just cant believe that someone can think up half of stuff that features in saw, and find it entertaining....

Also, i found the grudge pretty damn freaky. I still shine a torch into my loft before i climb into it.
