A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
The line closures, service changes and replacement buses for the Preston - Bolton - Manchester electrification are major, longer-term 7-day-a-week events (scheduled to last at least until October), for which the TOCs have gone to the trouble of publicising & printing special timetables.

It must be borne in mind, that in association with these works and for the entire time period of same of 2nd May 2015 to 5th October 2015, which include major infrastructural works on the two Farnworth tunnels, the following stations are all closed completely:-
Moses Gate
Farnworth
Kearsley
Clifton

We continue on Manchester Community Transport service 22 at 2120. Inspired by the cathedralesque architecture of the Trafford Centre and still feeling religious, we alight at Moses Gate at 2200 Sunday evening.

We continue onwards by boarding the 2208 First Manchester service 8 to Pendlebury (Bolton Road/Swinton Hall Road) that arrives there at 2226 on Sunday evening.

Sorry, I didn't realise the works between Manchester and Bolton were permanent. I just assumed they were normal works that take place in the evenings and on weekends.

Anyway, from Pendlebury, we then board the 2256 First Manchester service 8 to Deansgate (Barton Arcade), arriving there at 2318 on Sunday evening.

Slightly disappointed that Manchester's long-standing circular route 53 no-longer serves this part of Cheetham Hill, we continue to the city centre .....

We board the 0513 First Manchester service 88 from Cheetham Hill Road / Queen's Road to Shudehill Interchange, arriving at 0522 Monday morning.

With services on the Heart of Wales Line being extremely limited we have no option other than to wait for the 2037 Arriva Trains Wales service 2V12 to Bridgend, arriving there at 2314 on Monday evening.

Rather surprisingly, there is a good connection available even at this ungodly hour! We use every one of our five minutes to board 1L05, the 03:52 to London Paddington, where we try and get some sleep as we roll through South Wales. We wake up as the train speeds out of the Severn Tunnel. As we see the train get gradually busier, we realise that our seats are reserved from Didcot to London, so we decide to alight at Swindon at 06:26 on Tuesday morning.

Just remember to pop the day in too, helps us keep track of things :)

We walk to the nearby station with plenty of time to catch the 09:24 First Great Western service 2K12 bound for Severn Beach. We alight one stop early at the sparsely served St Andrews Road station at 09:44 on Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately there is no service now for at least two hours, and there are also no bus services in the nearby vicinity, so we let the time pass before we board the 1200 First Great Western service 2K19 to Clifton Down, arriving there at 1215 on Tuesday afternoon.

Are you sure there's no buses? I can see the frequent First Bristol 41 service leaving twenty minutes from the nearby Kings Weston Lane...

Where did we get this bus? As far as I can see we were nowhere near its route

True!

Furthermore, from Clifton Down why did we go straight back to St Andrews Road, after we'd just come from there!

A subtle way of showing there was a bus at St Andrews Road <D without being too blatant about it. Maybe it was too subtle

I think we are at Bradley Stoke (Newleaze) at 1428 on Tuesday afternoon.

I see what you mean! :)

I believe we are to continue from Avonmouth (St Andrews Road), as the 76 doesn't serve there.
