BusTimes shows that journey as being operated by First, but not to worry :)
Oops, Google Maps showed it as a Stagecoach journey. Not sure if the 57 is split between First and Stagecoach? Either way, as long as it actually operates! :)
Being right outside the railway station we head in and board 2T46, Northern's 0846 service, from which we alight at Barnsley at 0901 on Tuesday.
From the Interchange opposite we heat board the 0908 Stagecoach Yorkshire Gold service X17 to Carbrook (Attercliffe Common/Arena Square), arriving there at 0947 on Tuesday morning.

As we ignore real-time bank holidays, I'm OK with us ignoring real-time strikes. Otherwise, it might get difficult in the coming weeks/months :)

We walk around the corner to the Hunters Lane stop on Church Rd North (5 mins / 0.3 mile) where we await the 1954 Arriva Merseyside service 62. We alight at Walton Vale (Orrell Park Station) at 2026 on Tuesday.

Our options here seem to only be heading back northwards, so we leave on Stagecoach Merseyside & S Lancs service 16 at 1034, alighting at Moreton (Garden Lane) at 1130 on Wednesday.

OBSERVATION

Just a quick return to this quiz after making 5,673 postings on the thread from my long sabbatical and I note that in recent times, there has been a nation-wide mention of bus services tendered and commercial being under threat in the coming months with Governmental post-Covid financial support said soon to be changed. Matters such as this will mean contributors to this thread will have to keep "their fingers on the pulse of bus service provision"

You will all be in my thoughts. At the age of 77, I took my leave of this quiz, being one of the two original contributors to both this relaunched version and the original "Zoe" version.....the other website member being @ValleyLines142.

Hello and it is good to "see" you again. I do hope that this post signals the return of contributions from yourself... The number of participants continues to fluctuate, in current weeks being predominantly @ValleyLines142 and me...

Sorry, it was just an observational posting on this thread about bus service problems. There is a thread about that matter somewhere on the website.

The other thread that a long sabbatical was taken on by me (and still in that position) was "The next station is" quiz, that I helped @adtrainz to design and launch in 2011 and I have made 36,293 postings upon that one. I was about 6,000 points in the lead in that quiz when the last official scoresheet was published in March 2020.

My main raison d'etre for still being on the Quizzes and Games forum is the "Closed Stations Journey Quiz" that I set up in 2011 and I both design and launch each new journey. We are currently on journey number 1,259 in the series so far (Wombwell Central to Clipston and Oxendon). I have made 41,811 postings on that thread at the time of writing.

Unfortunately all too often I come and have a look and find us in an area we frequent all too often, or doesn't spark my interest enough to encourage me to research a move. The constant moans and groans everytime anyone dares to venture to the East Midlands gets boring too. Its a shame as I used to thoroughly enjoy the game, but as the number of contributors has dwindled (in some cases down to being upset by other players) it no longer has the same appeal.

The only area that currently bugs me is Liverpool, for some reason. 8-)

Fathoming out that trains from here seem to be either Chester to Chester, or Ellesmere Port to Ellesmere Port, and making sure we head in the right direction, we board Merseyrail's 2Y14, the 1317 service to Ellesmere Port (direct). We alight at the aforesaid Ellesmere Port at 1330 on Wednesday.

Sorry for the lack of postings from me, I'm working a lot and am finishing my Masters.

For me, my gripe with the East Midlands is that it seems to be one of those places where once we're there we'll never get out. It's the same with Leicester and Bedford and the Thameslink network. I feel as if it's just a radiate in and out of the city situation.

Liverpool and Birmingham are frequented on the game I've found, but at least the networks there constantly move so you can end up somewhere different!

In spite of that, I do enjoy the quirky little situations in rural Lincolnshire/Yorkshire where there's only one bus a day; as much as it's a bugger trying to plan the next move it is fun!

It's strange the different areas that annoy people - for me it is Liverpool, and I don't recollect going to Bedford in my time here 8-)
Hope the Masters is going well...

Anyway, we leave here at 1405 on Stagecoach Merseyside & S Lancs service 2 from which we alight at Helsby, Railway Inn at 1425 on Wednesday.
