on a different note, I don't see why someone working for Carlisle cleaning for example should receive the staff travel benefits that an employee of Virgin Trains receives. I base this purely on the fact that they are not employees of Virgin Trains but instead employed by a company paid by Virgin to provide on board cleaning services. If I was employed by a company contracted to work in another companies premises or vehicles I wouldn't expect to receive the perks that employees of that company simply because I was employed to carry out the work of my employer there.

In the past, these cleaners (or their predecessors) would have been direct employees of BR (maybe virgin too, depending on dates), then TUPE'd to Carlisle.

Maybe its not illegal - but its certainly unfair and against the spirit.

I realise that this link is possibly off topic to this section of the forum, but I suggest it is very much related to the issues being discussed in this thread.

I'll let people (whether staff or not) read it and make their own decision over whether to sign.

Slightly back on topic I have received confirmation that I am not entitled to a Virgin crew card, but I do have my TOC card which is a good bonus.

It does seem strange to me as I thought it would be the opposite. It will be interesting when I pass out and finish my training when they want me to cover at another booking office... I'm sure free travel would easily be arranged then...

Fingers crossed I do eventually get a perm job as I am loving it.

You'll either get a voucher or bearer duty pass!

I do get the opinion that staff morale at Virgin tends to be relatively qood, but that's based on my daily commute seeing the First Class hosts. Are you based at a single VT station?
