If anybody wants to discuss future 6-car services once the new stock is in service, I have created a specific thread regarding this under "Allocations, Diagrams and Timetables"

05 August isn't long away now - let's hope TPE can stick to this. Will it be only the morning services, or is that just to give us an idea of the day's workings? the 09:41 from Scarborough should then form the 12:56 back according to RTT

Yes it normally would be the 1256 back but during the transition period (ad-hoc) it won't be, it will be a 185 for the rest of the diagram, until more staff are trained and it can have a Mk5A slotted in again maybe sometime in the afternoon for one trip.

Indeed it can, and that is the plan.
We might even have more than two in service before the end of 2019.....Considering service introduction wad originally planned for last autumn. I wonder how long it will take to get all sets in use....?

More fun over the Pennines booked for Wednesday 31st July 2019:

5F68 03:45 Longsight-Liverpool Lime Street
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N04252/2019/07/31/advanced

5E68 05:04 Liverpool Lime Street-Scarborough (09:06)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N04251/2019/07/31/advanced

5M68 08:31 Scarborough to Longsight (12:34)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N04253/2019/07/31/advanced

Unless I’m reading things incorrectly, a bit of magical timing going on;)

I assume the trips are a conclusion to the latest round of driver training.

I don't suppose anyone can confirm the set number of the MK5s on the 3B01 0524 Longsight Excursion Plat to Bletchley Relief 1 today (26/7/19)? I believe it was 68021 with TP12 but I could be mistaken.
Thanks in advance

After seeing the difficulties faced with heat in the last couple of days, what in terms of redundancy does the Mark 5A and indeed the rest of TPE's fleet have in case of a breakdown to keep the train cool? The MK5A's appear to be sealed off, but is there at least a battery backup/ventilation system to keep the coaches cool should the train become stranded, AC fails or it breaks down?

The air con only goes to 21 degrees by all accounts anyway so will get rather hot in there regardless

If that's the set point that's fine, as long as it's proper climate control. I have been driving around with my car climate set at 21, it's fine, as the system compensates for the heat from outside.

If it just blows out 21C air.... well. That's a whole different kettle of fish.

It has batteries with at least 120 minutes of ventilation available

It’s a HVAC system with a set point of 21C

It has a set point of 21C and will always through a either heating or cooling attempt to keep the room at 21C which is pretty much the norm for a train HVAC

That's about 90 minutes too short with the time it takes to rescue people these days

We can't trust people to walk or use a ladder! That would be pure madness.

Hopefully we get a cool August for their introduction, should any problems show themselves.

Now, I know these coaches are built to the smaller UK loading gauge, but the windows still seem very low compared to other stock? Low-floor?

Not sure if it’s not just a slight trick of the eye and us being used to so much UK stock having rather high windows, a few classes that aren’t being the exception rather than the rule. There was certainly a good step up when I saw them at York a few months ago, and they didn’t appear noticeably low in person. Should help prevent feet on seats to a degree as so many kids won’t have to stand up to see out.

Smaller height windows and larger overhead racks as a result. A win win all round when it comes to luggage space.
