One of the main things a driver must show is the ability to work alone, make descisions on their own, think on your own two feet etc etc.....

How do you think you are doing so far by placing this thread in the wrong forum.......

Look here http://www.railforums.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=122 but if you needed help getting this far then I don't rate your chances very much :D

Then be prepared to take it again, even if you pass.A lot of companies will not accept personal tests.A few may,but I have only heard of one that did.

Even if you pass the one you are taking, and get a trainee driver interview, and then get forced to take the train companies psychometric test and fail that, the company WILL NOT take the earlier pass, they will take their own result in preference to any other.

Hope it goes well for you,but I fear you may be wasting time and money.

73110 and the sniper (lol nice name not. I bet you have never been in the forces.) You need to chill out old boys. I told you im new to this, you dont know me so dont judge.Thought id ask ppl with alittle more website wisdom on these things. Plus you know what they say 2 pairs of eyes are better than 1. So in future if you have nothing pos to say? Then say nothing at all, get my drift. Oh and i thougth this was a discussion forum? To me this is a discussion.

How to make friends and influence people!!!!

You posted in the wrong section. You were told that and also told it was a bit of banter too, yet your tirade against myself and the sniper is a bit much mate.

One of the aptitude tests they have is an english/grammer test. Judging by your posts so far I take it your are either around 10yrs old or have never been to school. Regardless of that you haven't a hope in hell of passing your aptitude tests if this is what you have to offer.

Your spelling and grammar are atrocious. I can only imagine what your CV will look like, you will be laughed out the interview, if you even make it that far.

You also have a go at two people here, personally having a go instantly even though you were told about the banter yet you still had to have a go. How do you think you will cope/get on in a crew room full of people you don't even know, are you going to be like that every time someone upsets you.....

FWIW I have done 20yrs in the job. In that time I have been an instructor and I can assess trainees. If I can help you then I will do anything I can to help but your little outburst above has made me take a step back now.

Anyhow, best of luck mate. You are going to need it. :)

Darn, I underestimated your intelligence. Your quite right, no, I am not an actual sniper... I doubt you care to know the story behind the name so I shan't bother typing it out.

I've got to say, I'm disappointed to see that 73110 isn't actually a 70+ ton locomotive! Too bad you didn't place a bet on that one, heh? ;)

Good luck out there chap.

But,the big question is...is he actualy a markfraser?

Mark..you need to chill a bit mate..if you think this is ribbing wait until you get in a traincrew messroom.I've seen trainees leave in tears, even seasoned drivers get upset,it can be that bad.Even the general chit chat between drivers and guards can be ,shall we say,a little robust!

This was just a little banter, and im sure we all wish you the best of luck

By the way,are you over 21?

Yes mate i am! I understand banter and banter I'm fine with, i spent 10 years in a commando reg, so banter is second nature. But this wasn't banter comments if you read them. OK I'm in the wrong forum, but if you read my first line it tells you I'm new. Also i ask for advice, plus we all know 2 pairs of eyes are better than 1. Plus I'm sure 90% of you guys have been where i am now so better to ask i thought. But all i get is i don't fancy your chances, They don't know me. So all i was saying is banter yeah fine lets have it, but if you don't have advise then chat with some else. thats it pal. hope iv explained.

Well, the cd is only 12 quid and it has sample tests in there so I would buy it just on that alone. What I would do after that is just repost it on here for someone else to buy/use.

What you really really need to do is practice as much as you possibly can. Pass these tests and you are as good as in mate and you have a military background too which is always a few points on the old scorecard at the interview.

This is the cd I would buy. http://www.how2become.co.uk/viewProduct/Psychometric_Test.html

I am trying to find some online versions of these tests but can't although I swear there was a site that had loads of good tests on it. In the meantime though I would brush up on your basic skills, english, maths and science. If I find anything I will post the links up later.

Thanks fellas, much appreciated. Yeah i had trouble finding site that i could practice. Some where just assessments in general and i didn't thing they where related to the railway. Yeah thought the forces background might hold up well it usually does, I also have a railway background. Iv been maintaining the railway for 3 years now, driving plant (ie hiabs, cranes and mewps) I also have a PTS. Do you think all these things will help? Thanks again for the advise and help. Mark.

Mark, I sat all the tests, interviews, etc and would totally agree that you need to be fully aware & prepared for whats ahead. The railway register website is a great source of information, I used this when applying and at the various stages of the application.

What they are looking for is experience / examples of safety, working alone, under pressure, following procedures, emergency situations. Basically can you show that you can deal with these.

If you want to know anything else, feel free to ask. I'm sure between myself and everyone else we will be able to answer your queries.

1) - The train is running on the right-hand set of rails. (Granted that can also happen over here from time to time.....)

2) - The infrastructure (crossings), road vehicles etc are clearly American.

3)
- The horn. This is probably the biggest give away in my opinion. It's obviously a single tone Horn, and of the American style. Even the low tones of our two tone horns don't sound anything like this (apart from maybe a dying 225 at a push!)

As said, it's on the right hand track and the infastructure is American. The bell as well as the horn though are clearly American.

The lack of a bonnet in front of the camera makes me think that it is a cab car, although, the height of the window and the speed it stops at makes me think it may be one of their bi-level EMUs.
Although looking now, the horn doesn't match the EMUs', so it could be just a cab car.

I think it's Metra because I'm sure someone said to me that it is.
