What kind of trains do you normally get at Crewe station.

I was thinking about going on Friday 23rd July 2010. Does anybody know if any freight goes through also? Thank You

You would get some (if not a lot of) Cl390's as is on the WCML.

You would normally get:
Half hourly Cl350 in each direction on BHM - LIV services
Hourly Cl350 on CRE - EUS services
Hourly Cl390 in each direction on MAN - EUS services
Hourly Cl221 in each direction on EDB/GLC - BHM services
Hourly Cl221 in each direction on EUS - CTR/HHD services
Hourly Cl175 in each direction on MAN - CMN/MFH services
Half Hourly Cl323 on CRE - MAN services
Hourly Cl153/150/158/175 on CRE - CTR services
2 Hourly Cl153/150/158 on CRE - SHR services
Hourly Cl153/156/158 on CRE - DBR services
And;
The fridays only EUS - PRE formed of the 'Pretendolino' but this doesn't arrive at Crewe until 21:01
Plus Half hourly passing Cl390.

Most freight avoids the station by going on the underpass straight to Basford Hall.

Hope this makes sense :D

What times are you considering?
If you are after freight, then travel down to Stafford, the majority of the freight still passes through which would have bypassed Crewe

On my last visit to Crewe there was ONE container train, for a crew change, at about 15:00
It's a few years since I have done an overnight there, but there used to be quite a lot of freight as there is little need to bypass the station

There are normally locos going in/out of the terminating platforms and the line between platforms 11 and 12, but other than that, I'm not sure.

Hope this helps :D

Sorry, forgot to mention that the Arriva Trains Wales 'WAG Express' stops here as well and also, Cross Country stop here a couple of times a day.

There is a possibility of getting locos around - it all depends on whether there are any special services running which may give the best possibility and is something someone else will have info about.

I was at Crewe Heritage Centre last summer and there were a few special services came through loco hauled (one of them in particular had everyone on the viewing platform with their cameras, though I'm still unsure of the significance of it!)
I seem to remember one of the services was double headed too

Sometimes you get the Royal Mail train (325?) go through, as I saw it once when I was up there.

Plus the 2-hourly Shrewsbury stopper is usually a 150 :)

Will need to look out for this. Will this be up on Uk Steam???

I think it's an fifty-fifty per cent chance that it be up on uksteam, if it does go up, your be looking around mid week or Thursday, its not up yet because they might be discussing the route it will be taking to get from Bury to Crewe to Central Wales

...As do some of the EUS-LIV 390s, particularly in the afternoon/evening.
