From http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/buy_tickets/tickets_explained/advance.aspx

Valid on: You must travel on the date, time and trains specified.
Booking: Can be booked up until the day before travel, subject to availability and reservation compulsory.
Refunds: No refunds available.
Changes: Date & time of tickets can be changed up until the time of departure, minus a £10 fee per ticket per person and any difference in fares.
Break of Journey: Not allowed.
Discounts: Railcard and child discounts available.

So - no refund, but you can, if you wish, change the date & time of your tickets (minus a £10 fee per ticket per person and any difference in fares) should you wish to decide to amend your journey to, for exampl, a day trip.

Micheal Jackson's got a lot to anwser for!! :o

To be honest, I think that AP would have been spent in vain, as even if he hadn't died, I think the chances of him doing as many as half of the performances would have been unlikely.

Anyway, I agree, it seems silly to cancel a trip to London just because he's not performing, as djw said, why not see a show, or do other cultural activities.

I would just go as planned and make another event the highlight of the trip.

You can't. Why not go to London anyway and do something else? there's plenty to do!

Your concert tickets may be refundable shortly, although it does look like the booking fee will not

Depending on where you purchased your tickets you have travel insurance
Equally if you have annual travel insurance then you should be covered

If not, then you could write separately to the concert tickets insurance company for consequential losses
Lloyds of London are already aware and expect thousands of claims

You can't.

Are you saying you cannot get a refund on an AP ticket? If so, I got a refund minus a £10 "admin" fee on a First Class Euston-International weekday ticket (catching the 1823 ex Euston). I had to send the unused tickets off to the Virgin Refunds address and got the refund a couple of weeks later back into my account.

I did rebook on an earlier service so whether that had a bearing or not I don't know.

Read the Advance ticket terms and conditions http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/advance_conditions.html, particularly:

Advance ticket terms and conditions said:
Changing the time or date of travel
Changes to time or date of travel must be arranged before departure of the first reserved train printed on the ticket, after which the ticket has no value and a new one must be purchased. ...
The difference between the price paid and cost of the next suitable fare for your journey is payable, plus a £10 administration fee per person, per single ticket for each change to a journey. If you change to a train on which a cheaper fare is available, the difference will not be refunded.

Refunds
Your ticket is non-refundable.

Well regardless of what the T&Cs say, I didn't imagine it :D Although I did have to cancel and refund the original Advance Purchase ticket and buy a new ticket for the earlier train I caught

Yes, that's what they call Changing the time or date of travel.
