Which bridge are you referring to here? Leeds Road in Huddersfield (the A62, confusingly the same number is designated to the ring road) does not cross the railway until Bradley which is well over a mile out of town, beyond Deighton station. Is this road-over-rail bridge the bridge in question?
Leeds Road bridge on the A62 near the Honda Garage. I've edited my post.

Thanks for confirming- that's the one I figured you probably meant, being the only crossing of the railway by the A62 within Huddersfield while it's called Leeds Road. There's a large compound nearby, just beyond the bridge when heading away from Huddersfield.

Unrelated, but it would be nice if Kirklees Council could use the opportunity to sort out the A62 in that area. It currently looks like the average road in Dombass!

3.19 This public investment will get Britain moving and spur regional growth and
innovation, through:
• Securing the delivery of priority transport schemes, which will transform rail
connectivity across the country.
The Transpennine Route Upgrade between York and Manchester, via
Leeds and Huddersfield,
will transform northern rail connectivity and lay
the ground for Northern Powerhouse Rail.

Glad to see this in the budget.

I was a bit concerned though that the Chancellor could only cite the Stalybridge and Church Fenton sections as examples of what would be achieved.

...and Wigan - Bolton (actually only Lostock Ln), Bradford FS P4, all Tory approved schemes!

Assume they are just reaffirming. Didn't mention the cuts TRU been asked to make mind!
Given Church Fenton to York electrification is reported as "by 2026" I assume the work expected this Christmas to finish it off has been set back a year to save money this financial year?

The Chancellor has promised to deliver the Transpennine upgrade on trains between York, Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester in her inaugural budget.

Rachel Reeves, the MP for Leeds West and Pudsey, said the upgrades, which will bring fully electric regional services, is guaranteed under the new Labour government.

Ms Reeves stated that there would be electrification from Church Fenton to York by 2026 "to help grow our economy across the North of England".

More accurately the cuts which TRU had reportedly been asked to evaluate. The treasury has been hunting for savings everywhere, but clearly most of the cuts have been judged to be impossible or pointless.

This is atrocious 6+ yrs for 5miles of electrification and then the only trains that will/may use it is the hourly 802 Newcastle/Liverpool.

Impressive compound:

No wonder this project has a 10B price tag when they have a building like this and a comms team that needs to find something to showcase about the project. Railway needs to get a grip on project costs if it is to get back in govts good books and attract this sort of investment that is needed to promote global shift and decarbonisation.

To be fair, a temporary prefab building like that, on railway-owned land, probably compares quite favourably to leasing an office block from the private sector... Especially if the would-be lessor knows it's a publicly-funded infrastructure project. The location is probably an advantage too.

There a smaller stack of portacabin offices adjacent to the A62 bridge. I sometimes think we now live in a world of paper shufflers or maybe I'm just old.

In relation to TRU work - Lady Ann Crossing and Footbridge Batley

Re: Redundant Footbridge - located between Morley Tunnel and Lady Anne Crossing.

I understand that work started last night (Wednesday 30th) to demolish the redundant footbridge.

Looking at the below photo, works appear to be almost finished with demolition.

That appears to have been MDL1/34 West End Footbridge, until relatively recently!

Funding for the entire Transpennine Route Upgrade was approved in the Budget.
That might not be new money.
The last Tory funding commitment was for something like £11 billion.
I'm not sure if anybody is clear about what all the money buys beyond wires Manchester-York, or what project savings NR will have to make to meet the budget.

I assume it'll have to be replaced as it's a public right of way?

Not sure to be honest. The location is a bit hard to get to with the footpath blocked whilst works continue - time permitting, I may get chance for a nosey this weekend.

I could be mistaken, but I believe one plan was to tie both sides of the footpaths for the footbridge into Howley Mill Lane and use this lane as the walking route.

I walked the area last week and I couldn’t see anything that would suggest the above bypass and diversion of the existing footpath.

Will post later if I find out more details.

When I last tried to use this bridge on 16/05/2023 it was "temporarily" shut for the railway works.

Thought it odd that the notice was from Leeds City council, when Sunny Bank Lane is in Batley, but it turns out that if you look on an OS map, the actual railway footbridge structure is (just) in Leeds.

Will be interesting to try and get back down there and see if there are any new notices about the footpath being permanently extinguished/diverted, as the photos above look pretty conclusive!

Googling it doesn't seem to find any results.

Welcome and thank you for the information and update.

Will have a look over the weekend to see any progress and/or diversion of the footpaths.
