How many 769s are left now? Apologies if this has been asked before, I'm not local and don't follow this thread as religiously as some others.

I was on 769 421 the other day and it is showing as running today on RTT
The three in traffic are 008, 421 & 445.

For anyone interested, last passenger trains worked by the other five were:

769002 2F82 1940 Caerphilly-Cardiff 21/03/23

769003 2P87 1727 Rhymney-Penarth 07/03/23, terminated Cardiff due to a power fault

769006 2P33 1025 Caerphilly-Cardiff (vice 1000 Bargoed-Penarth) 13/03/23

769007 2F39 2124 Penarth-Cardiff 25/02/23

769452 2P83 1728 Ystrad Mynach-Penarth to Cardiff 05/04/23

Yes sorry, 769452 has gone so the three runners are 769008, 769421 and 769445. Although 769008 hasn't worked for over a week. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the last day of booked work.

Will that mean all diagrams on 27th will be 231s if so yippee that'll make for a good ride to my grandfather if the 175s play ball.

It was said a few weeks back on this thread that all diagrams should be 231s from the timetable change. Whether anything has changed since then I don't know

What do you mean “back,” like it was ever a route with guaranteed tables? 150s have always been an addition, not the principal traction. Prior to 769s, many, many Rhymney Valley services were Pacers which certainly didn’t have them.

Many journeys I would do as I travel out of peak was on a 150 up the line and 769 back down due to being at 1700, so last few years it's been a case got me I have no table

Ohhh you mean back as in back home, not back as in back from being gone  My mistake

My understanding is that there will be six class 231 diagrams from tomorrow and nine from the 22nd.

Yesterday, 769421 and 769445 were both out in service. Bizarrely they swapped over at Cardiff Central at 11:30. Both units ran into platform 7. 769421 came up from Penarth and returned there whilst 769445 turned around and did the 11:31 to Bargoed. I did the round trip on 769445. Max speed 39 mph Heath to Llanishen and 1m 33s through the tunnel so it's one of the better ones.

769 421 seems to be out today.

And 769 421 seems to be out again today. (Tuesday) - just a quick out-and-back from Canton to Bargoed and back, it seems.

That is the run they normally do prior to being sent over to the Brickyard for onward road movement

Interesting.

Is this just to show that they still work? (I'm not sure how well it was working - the traction motor I was above didn't sound at all normal...)

It left (or rather was timetabled to leave) Bargoedat 12:25 for Cardiff, which is a service in the pdf timetables (albeit all the way to Penarth) but not in the National Rail journey planner for the next few days and I'm pretty sure that it wasn't in it today at first, but then appeared.

It looks as if 445 came out to play later to do some longer runs and is spending the night in Rhymney.

Interesting so unless return ECS workings are missing from Realtimetrains they are both spending the night in Rhymney.
421 & 445 were both on workings that finished up in Rhymney so they stabled there as normal. Both are out again today.

Interesting.

Yes, they have to be returned in a working condition so a few have done a quick Canton to Bargoed run before heading off however, as mentioned by Anonymous 10, it worked to Rhymney in the evening so that run was probably for another reason

But not on the same diagrams they've been on for the last few weeks, though.

They seem to have had both 421 and 445 out this week on most if not all days.

Maybe they'll carry on next week too?

Reported elsewhere that yesterday was the last day for 769 421 and 769 445.

Buses on the Rhymney all weekend and 8 car 231s on Penarth Saturday ? so probably Friday

Although I presume that they didn't actually run yesterday. (Rhmyney Line closed north of Cardiff, and realtimetrains shows only 150 and 231 operation between Penarth and Cardiff).

No sign of any 769s on Realtimetrains today or yesterday.

Is that really it then for the 769s in passenger service in the Valleys?
