Hi everyone,

Can anyone have a [n educated] guess at what daily scheduled service has the most / equal most calling points of all scheduled services in the UK?

Thanks!

How about the 08.20 Aberdeen to Penzance which calls at a whopping 44 stations along its 13hr 23 minute journey ?

This question has been asked several times in the past, but the answer may change whenever timetables alter!

A previous winner has been the service from Cardiff to Shrewsbury and vice versa, but many of the stations served are request stops.

Thanks guys - plenty to go on there! I'm not after _the_ most, just, a lot! Apologies for the FAQ.

No worries, as I said, this is one of those questions which is justified to ask regularly. Stops on services like Aberdeen to Penzance can be added or removed with a timetable change, or maybe even cut back to Edinburgh - Plymouth!

Imagine the sheer boredom of doing the full trip!

Maybe I'm a bit strange, but I love gazing out of the window at the rural and post industrial landscapes on such a long journey! But, even so, that run would probably be a bit much!

A number of underground services will also have 40+ stops Uxbridge -> Cockfosters, Upminster -> Richmond/Ealing Broadway/Wimbledon etc.

Although National Rail wasn't specified in the thread title, it's implied as this is the UK Railway Discussion forum and London underground has it's own section :D

My XC HST last weekend ended up just as crowded as a Voyager. At least it was in my coach!

The 06:12 Waterloo - Weymouth stops at 37 stations (if I've counted correctly)

The most recent thread: Trivia: Which service calls at the most stations?

45 stations for Aberdeen to Penzance

It gets asked every year or so. As well as the obvious XC service already mentioned, SWT also have a weekday 0612 Waterloo to Weymouth with 42 calls.

What usually happens now is that people suggest services with numbers of calls in the mid 20s or 30s for about 6 more pages...

This might be the last one of 2014, but there will be another two or three crop up in 2015 I suspect ;) and yes, they generally follow the same pattern.

By the way I moved this thread to the correct forum and gave it a title that complies with the Forum Rules :)

It's 42, but depending where you checked you won't see the full calling pattern. The printed SWT timetable doesn't show the minor stations nearer London, because no other Weymouth trains stops there.

I got the number from NRES enquiry, then 'details', then 'show calling points'...

What about metro routes like Glasgow and it's Subway. Lots of stops there.
Find one that beats those already posted then

And no, you can't count staying on the subway past your origin and counting stations more than once ;) <D

It's not one service, and it's surely bonkers to continue past your origin and count stations more than once, even if it was.

I found 24 stops on a train from Edinburgh to Garscadden 2257 start.
26 stops on 0533 Airdrie to Balloch.
20 stops on Milngavin to Motherwell 2323.
20 stops Larkhall to Dalmuir 2326.
37 stops Edinburgh to Helensburgh Central 0621.
And these are just some through Partick.
I know nothing will beat Cross Country but Glasgow has alot of stops on it's Scotrail trains.

Aberdeen/Penzance .......... HST anyday :)Voyager no no way:(

Particularly when it has no functioning loos by Newcastle from the Aberdeen direction, a not uncommon experience, or just the one, which requires giving up a highly-prized seat to find the lucky carriage and join a queue, all this for £200 'cheap' return Penzance to Alnmouth. For somebody who doesn't drive and wants to see members of their family occasionally, this is how life is.

Edinburgh - Helensbirgh services in the evening that call all stations.
It's fun heating the PIS at either end getting going. Often I'd the driver doesn't do it before departure at either end you're already at the next stop!
