The Anglicised name Manchester is derived from the Roman name Mamucium or its variant Mancunio, which has a Brythonic origin. Manceinion (its Welsh name) is thus much closer to the original name for the settlement.

I thought there was a thread on this already, but I can't find it, so here's a new one. Post places you think you ought to know how to pronounce (but don't), and hopefully some others can set you straight.

I'll start with Burscough. Is it "Berss-kuh" or "Berss-ko"? I have no idea.

I think it's either Burr-skow (rhyming with) or Burr-skuh - either option is acceptable I mean
