What stations can be seen from the train your on but which are not called at or passed through on that trains route.

One example is travelling between Manchester and Euston on a virgin. The train doesn't pass through Stone station but the station can be seen going through Stone Junction.

Another is travelling to Manchester Airport from Piccadilly on a clear day you can see Levenshulme in the distance at the Junction to Mauldeth Road.

Are there any others?

Reedham (Surrey) from the Brighton main line, and further South along the same route, Coulsdon Town.

Coulsdon South might qualify, but depends on your definition of "route". If the quarry lines and Redhill lines are both considered to be the the same route, but merely different alignments, then it doesn't qualify, but if you consider these to be separate routes, then it does.

Do you consider the 'DC' lines to be a separate route to the WCML, in all or in part? If so, some of those stations might count. It really depends on the definition of 'on a different route'.

A much more indisputable one is Pollockshields East; the line towards Pollockshaws West diverges before the Pollockshields East and is not only on a different alignment, but clearly a different route.

Heading back to London, and Brockley is another good one - this is clearly visible on the trains between Nunhead & Lewisham. Nearby St Johns is debateable, again depends on your definition of 'route'.

I'm assuming that the 'stations' must be served by National Rail services to qualify, and that the trains which you're on must be National Rail trains. In which case, Northwick Park doesn't count, but Kenton does.

There must be dozens of these. I would narrow the question down to stations that are visible from another route, where there's no direct rail connection between the two.

I can think of a couple in the south east...

Strood can be seen between Rochester and Sole Street on the Chatman main line just after Rochester Bridge in the up direction.

Catford Bridge can be seen from Catford and vice versa. Although, this one might be a bit dodgy as some people, particularly some locals, consider them the same station. They are effectively next to each other, but there is no rail link between the two. Also on the Catford loop, Brockley can be seen in the distance.

New Beckenham can just be seen in the distance as trains approach Kent House in the up direction or depart in the down.

Loughborough Junction and Brixton can be seen from the Atlantic lines. The former can be seen on the north of the lines and the latter can be seen below the lines as the line passes over the station.

Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road and Battersea Park can be seen from the Chatham main line approaching London Victoria. Clapham High Street and Wandsworth Road might be a bit dodgy as the running lines are next to the three Chatham lines, although services on the Chatham lines do not strictly go through the stations. Battersea Park definitely qualifies, it can be seen emerging from behind the gas holders and down the line as the Brighton and Chatham lines merge alongside.

Travelling between Grand/Proof House junction and New Street, Moor St can be seen just before the tunnel.

Ardwick, from all Southbound services from Manchester Piccadilly; Wakefield Kirkgate (just), from services on the main-line viaduct South of Westgate; Ravensthorpe from NT/GC services heading to/from Healey Mills.

Oh, and Shelley station on the stupidly-named KLR from just up from Shepley.

Queenstown Road can be seen on southern routes to Victoria.
Pudding mill lane..?
Pence west and Tulse Hill - Pence seen from services from crystal palace.
Those hill - seen from west norwood to streatham hill.
Dorking/Dorking deepdene.
Streatham common is actually a good example, as my local train from Sutton (via tooting/mitcham) goes on a bridge where streatham common lies, but heads to balham.

I'm pretty sure that you can catch a glimpse of Cogan station on the Vale of Glamorgan line from trains going to Penarth just after they leave the line at Cogan Junction.

You should also be able to see Moor Street, Bordesley and Small Heath on the XC services from New Street to Bristol which go via Camp Hill.

You can see Brondesbury and West Hampstead (North London Line) from anything which starts/terminates at London Marylebone.

Would it be possible to see Tyseley as well?

Upper Warlingham and Whyteleafe stations from their respective lines, and you can just about see Lewisham from the Southeastern Mainline. Also Coulsdon South from the Brighton Mainline.

I'm sure Wigan Wallgate can be seen from the approach to Wigan North Western on the WCML?

Similarly, can the other Burscough station be seen from the approach to the Burscough station on the Ormskirk line from Preston? I get the two mixed up and can't remember which one's which!

PTSO or platform depending on the weather
Penge East can be glimpsed when rising the incline from Sydenham to Crystal Palace (but not vice versa, i.e. from Crystal Palace to Sydenham).

I think Chartham can also be seen from a train between Selling and Canterbury East at Chartham Hatch

Waterloo from Waterloo East.

Actually I may be wrong - not sure if you can see it from Waterloo East station, or only from the train just after you've left.

Am I right in thinking Ninian Park can be seen when travelling west of Cardiff Central, or the valley line to Grangetown?

Apart from many High Level/Low Level situations, there are several estuarial situations for the sharp-eyed (you might need binoculars!):
Starcross to stations on the Exmouth line
South Clyde to North Clyde
Around Chinley across to the Buxton line?
Cambrian Coast stations (Llandanwg?) across Tremadog Bay to Criccieth
You are more likely to see trains on the move/stopping than the actual stations.

You can certainly catch a glimpse of it from the mainline, but I don't think it can be seen past Canton depot when you're on the way to Grangetown. Admittedly, I'd normally be looking at the depot as I went by, rather than looking past it...

South Hampstead is also visible from trains running into Marylebone: it's in a cutting below that the Marylebone line crosses on a bridge.

You can see Brondesbury and West Hampstead (North London Line) from anything which starts/terminates at London Marylebone.

Also South Hampstead between St John's Wood and Hampstead Tunnels, and Ruislip Gardens between South and West Ruislip (if that counts).

Does Bethnal Green count if travelling on the Main or Electric Lines out of Liverpool Street (which no longer have platforms at Bethnal Green)?

You can see Aldgate from Hammersmith & City Line trains between Liverpool Street and Aldgate East, and also from District Line trains between Tower Hill and Aldgate East.

North Acton, Hanger Lane, Perivale and Northolt (and Greenford if you crane your neck) on services using the New North Main Line.

Hackney Central as you leave Hackney Downs heading towards Liverpool Street, ditto South Tottenham between Seven Sisters and Stamford Hill.
