eek I have edited it back to the original message (kind of)

10-0 England

I'm afraid I am not that good at predicting (in fact terrible- I said 2-1 Spain not a cracking 5-3)

 I’m terrible at predictions too, so...
England 1 Germany 4 tomorrow. Absolutely no doubt about it.

I could edit it back so that you said France to score all five and Switzerland to score none you know...

That would never happen- The winning team would only take the first three pens! [/pedant]

Not necessarily, might take four pens as they can still win 3-0 on pens if they go first, if they miss one of their first three pens, but score from the other three! ;)

But if "France score all five" as @Cowley suggested, and the Swiss failed to score any, then France can't possibly miss the first. Switzerland were taking first, so had they failed to score while France were successful, the contest would be over as soon as France scored their third.

Agreed, only the team going first can take four penalties and win the shoot-out by 3-0.

I somehow knew Mbappe would miss his pen, when you are having a bad night nothing goes right!

Congrats to the Swiss, they deserved it. When France played well they looked unbeatable, unfortunately for them they only played well for about a quarter of an hour not 90 minutes!

England look incapable of scoring more than 1 goal, so if they concede one, I expect them to be eliminated.

From an EU perspective, it would be good riddance to Euro 2020 participants from perfidious Albion. Assuming that Ukraine are also eliminated, it would guarantee that Euro 2020 would be won by a country that is part of the EU.

The Switzerland-France game was the best of the tournament so far in my opinion! People have been saying that England or Germany have an easy run to the final, but we've now seen Czech Republic knock out the Netherlands and Switzerland knock out France. Croatia and Austria put up very good fights against Spain and Italy. I don't think we can take anything for granted here.

The Swiss are not in the EU

They may not be a member of the EU, but are completely surrounded it, are part of the Schengen area and have close commercial ties with it, so are effectively in the EU, in contrast with Russia and the UK (or at least GB).

What a strange way to think about a football tournament.

I hope we absolutely hump the Germans; it's about time we did.

I would love it, LOVE it, if we beat them but you must know we wont!

We haven't looked like doing anything like that so far. Southgate will go full on cautious, rightly, but will strangle any attacking flair in a desire not to get beaten. I think I am ok with that against better sides as long as we can grind out the win. I am not convinced we can against the Germans.

Why? Because they are Germans playing tournament football and Germans playing tournament football generally find a way, even when they are not a classic German team of old. That or penalties..................

How on earth did I choose last night to go to the pub (which wasn't showing it)? I thought it was a fairly safe evening to go without missing much!!

What has the EU or “an EU perspective” (what ever that means) got to do with anything?

There’s no “effectively” about, they are not in the EU. Fact. The Swiss have signed up to various agreements with the EU on a case-by-case basis as it benefits them, but EU laws do not automatically apply in Switzerland.

I think that the media, both print and televisual, must have thought that all their Christmases had come at once when England and Germany progressed to play each other.
Indeed. Hopefully there have been no repetition in the print media today of this infamous and jingoistic 1996 "Daily Mirror" front cover.

I am waiting (impatiently) for @tommy2215 to provide a prediction since he was spot on with the first Italy result against Turkey :)
Its looking pretty good for my other prediction too!
I predict Turkey 0 Italy 3 tonight. Also predict Italy will win the whole thing
Hate to say it but I am predicting a loss for England..... England 0 Germany 2. Certainly will be if England carry on playing very defensively.

I’m going to go England 1 Germany 4. Germany two up by halftime, us to score either just before or just after halftime to give us some hope that doesn’t last very long.
Pessimistic? Yes I’m afraid so.

I don't like the German football team anymore than the next person but the English fans shouldn't boo their anthem
