Lewandowski makes up for his earlier miss there... but might all be undone with a very soft penalty awarded to Spain...

Which Morata Moreno then misses. Justice.

It was a clear foul, just surprising the ref didn’t see it. Presumably he was watching the ball which wasn’t in the vicinity. It was Moreno who missed the penner, Morata missed the rebound

Technically yes, it was a foul... but if that's penalised every time then the game is gone. The VAR panel have been sensible for most of the tournament, but that was a silly call in my opinion. The ball had long gone, there was no advantage gained by the Polish defender, and there was no intent behind it. Just let the game flow.

Which makes it worse, not better

there was no advantage gained by the Polish defender,

Irrelevant

no intent

You sound like Rio Ferdinand! He thinks it can’t be a penalty if there’s no intent. Fouls in football (other than handball in the traditional laws) are strict liability

It was on his ankle and the top of his foot. Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a free kick and nobody says a word. If it’s in the box, it’s a penner

Better to watch than the Spain v Sweden game but still not great. Spain aren't a good team to watch.

I think it cant be a penalty if there is no blood. The game is soft these days. Surprised Sterling didn't get a penalty last night for having his toe trod on!

More to the point, even if it IS a foul, if you scream like a horror movie victim and roll around as if you're having a seizure, you should forfeit any penalty or free kick that would have otherwise been awarded.

Why did I have to get Spain in the work sweepstake. An awful team to watch, suck the joy out of football. I think Spain's biggest issue is playing Marcos Llorente at right back. Hes one of the best attacking midfielders in the world and Atletico Madrid's best player yet hes stuck out at right back which is a complete waste of his talent. Hes also not the good at crossing.

Agreed. Any thumping of the floor should result in a penalty to the opposition and 2 of your own team being sent off as punishment.

Simple rules: No blood/all limbs and head pointing the right way/player able to get within double the number of fingers shown = play on.

Tough game for Wales today v Italy. I hope they can get a point. It will be very hard.

Veratti is such a class player. Joy to watch.
He was absolute class today. It will be interesting to see if he keeps his place for the next game given how well they've done before. Not sure the rest of the Italian 'B' side quite did enough to warrant inclusion in the knock out round starting side - Chiesa looked to give them something a bit different though.

What about complaining about refereeing decisions? Sometimes there is a yellow card for complaining but perhaps it should be a yellow each time. Given how often the referees change their mind because of a complaint, complaining is a dumb thing to do and is clearly a waste of time.

Yes it defintley will be, the Italian midfield already loooked so strong in the other two games so I wonder if Veratti will start or if Macini will go with the established midfield. And if he starts, who an earth does he replace as Jorginho, Barella and Locatelli have all been superb so far.

I do agree though with the second point. Italy missed Spinnazolla on the left and Beradi on the right and Belotti didn't have a very good game. Also the defence looked a little weaker once Bonucci went off. Chiesa I think would be better as a sub because of his pace but I could see him potentially starting as well.

Just a bit! I doubt Bonucci and Chiellini would leave Bale unmarked in the middle of the six yard box. I wasn't sure why Mancini was still playing both of them together (combined age 70!), but can see why now. They'll be hoping Chiellini is back for the next game.

Chiesa I think would be better as a sub because of his pace but I could see him potentially starting as well.
You can certainly see the benefit of using Chiesa off the bench with his pace against a tiring defence.

Since when did a defender lying down on the ground, just behind the rest of the defensive wall at a free-kick (to prevent a low free-kick sneaking in, should the rest of the wall jump up) become the vogue? o_O

Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount have to self-isolate after coming into close contact with Scotland's Billy Gilmour. However no one in the Scotland squad has to self isolate!

BBC: England's Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount have to self-isolate as a precaution after coming into close contact with Scotland's Billy Gilmour who has tested postive for COVID

Chilwell and Mount were seen interacting with Gilmour after Friday's goalless draw with Scotland at Wembley.
Gilmour has since tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss Scotland's final group game against Croatia on Tuesday.

The entire England squad had lateral flow tests on Monday afternoon and all were negative.

Gareth Southgate's side face the Czech Republic in their final Euro 2020 group game at Wembley on Tuesday.

In a statement, the FA said it would hold further talks with Public Health England (PHE) before taking further action.

"The pair will be kept away from the rest of the England players and wider support team, pending further discussions with PHE," read the statement.

"We will continue to follow all Covid-19 protocols and the Uefa testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE."
