As was North Berwick, it's building was demolsihed after it was partially rebuilt (?). Musselburgh hasn't had one since it orginially closed, but yes, they did close with the open train policy of the late 80s (there were also mass closures of booking offices across Britain at this time).

Dunfermline and Ardrossan are the only Scottish stations to be suffixed 'Town'

They could be doing with ticket halls at all stations on the NBW line as passenger numbers are well up.

Ever wondered when travelling on a Met-Cam Networker (465/2 or /9 or 466), why you hear the sound of water sloshing around?

The units underframes were assembled in Spain, and carried in open box containers when shipped across the English Channel. Sea water kept seeping into the containers, and BR made no effort to clean the underframes! So that water inside the underframes, is sea water thats been there for nearly 20 years!

Also, Class 508 units can couple to Networkers in emergency.

I couldn't agree more. RailFuture want any station with usage over 80,000 to have a booking office (every station on the NBW line falls into that category with ease), but I doubt it will happen, what with the McNulty Report and London Midland's desires. Maybe when things perk up money wise we will see some more development, but don't hold your breath mate :(

Looks like they've preserved Prestonpans booking office:

Site facilities usually ment taking the part of the ballast minutes, that dealt with someone elses possession behind a handy bush. If you were wise you were careful not to use the page with the staple in it. Occasionally a kettle would be used to fill a hard hat with warm water so you could wash your hands before going home.

Wondered what happens when trackmen get caught short...

After the Grand Junction and the London to Birmingham Railways were opened, the original schemes for a direct line from London to Manchester involved going up the Erewash Valley, across to Cromford to join the Cromford and High Peak.

The plans never took off because passengers were not allowed to ride in cable-hauled trains and would have had to walk up and down the hills.

Kiveton, South Yorkshire is the smallest place in Europe to have two seperate railway stations - Kiveton Park Station and Kiveton Bridge Station

The tube might not be reliable but you risk going under a bus or taxi going down the small pavement along Euston Road during rush hour. I'll even take the sweaty Northern Line over that any day :)

I'd sooner take the Victoria Line fron KX to Euston, more frequent as well with a train every couple of minutes.:D

I would have thought that Tyndrum in Scotland would be smaller than Kiveton (Park), Tyndrum has Upper Tyndrum and Tyndrum Lower, albeit on two different lines.

Wikipedia claims Tyndrum is the smallest place in the UK to have two stations, so it would follow that Kiveton is unlikely to be the smallest in Europe!

Smallbrook Junction on the Isle of Wight is the only National Rail station that is only accessible by train. No other public right-of-way or private road/path to the location.

Shropshire is the only mainland traditional English country with no direct train services to/from London.

Heres a couple. Lockerbie is the only Scotrail owned station not to have any Scotrail services stopping there.

Burton-on-Trent, Water Orton, Manea, Willington, Coleshill Parkway,
Hinckley, Wilnecote ,Narborough, South Wigston are all like that, all managed by LM, EMT or NXEA but all only served by Cross Country.
