What stations served by XC, EC and VT have free parking?

As you all probably know it's difficult to get free parking at the stations served by XC, EC and VT Intercity services. Does anyone know of any stations other than this:

Congleton (served by XC, 1 morning peak to MAN and 1 evening peak from MAN)

I'm initially looking at car parks only operated by the station however I would be interested in knowing if there's any free parking nearby!

When you say free parking, are you talking about parking owned/operated by the station itself, or just nearby parking (perhaps privately operated) that happens to be free?

Sorry, should've been clearer. I'm talking about car parks operated by the station however now that you mention it, I would be interested in knowing if there's any sneaky free parking nearby! (have added this into my initial post)

Extra sneaky free parking on Station Road in Shipley when the car park's full (most of the time). However it's very secluded and the amount of broken glass around suggests not too secure!

Alnmouth station has free parking and quite a decent amount of it.

Free on-street parking within a 5 minute walk at Doncaster, Rugby, Crewe, Warrington B.Q. (though neeed to get there early for this one). There was free on-street parking outside Stafford station but that is no longer the case.

Sometimes can find free parking near to the station in York, although there isn't much. The commutter parking operated by Apcoa is cheaper than EC. At Surham you'd have to walk up the bank from anywhere that is free, and Newcastle there isn't much in the city centre that hasn't been converted to pay and display by now.

Didn't expect anythin free within a 1-mile radius in York! Is it residential the free bit? As for Newcastle, you're saying there is SOME free parking somewhere? I've never witnessed any! All double-yellows or pay & display...

There are a few streets in York which haven't been turfed over for residential parking (used to live on one of them). I was told by a ward councillor that if they put a permit scheme in, the fire brigade would want parking only on one side of the road, which wasn't acceptible apparently. The streets I know are 20 minute walk from the station or a few stops on a bus. There probably is some nearer but I never found them!

As for Newcastle, the pay and display has been recently expanded, but there are a few within a 15 minute walk. Doesn't help me as one of the nearest places is where I live :-x

There is the good sized Toy's R Us car park opposite Southampton Central plt 4 that always seems half empty when I go past - at least I think it's free.

The much larger public car park right next door however is not free.

Hexthorpe Road, just over the railway bridge. The parking closest to the station is usually unavailable during the day but you can also park a bit further down, so maybe 5-10 minute walk.

Sandwell and Dudley has free parking. It is operated by London Midland but VT services stop there. As far as I know, no XC trains stop although they pass through.

The car park for Central Six in Coventry is free, and in fact butts onto the line heading out of the station.

There's a good footbridge to take your camera onto as well.

Gleneagles (2xEC services per day) has free parking at the station.
Dunblane (1xEC service per week) has free parking near the station.

Both Filton Abbey Wood and Patchway stations (1 XC train per day in each direction) have free parking.

Yes there are some nearer, but I'm not going to say where as I don't want to turn up myself to find it full!

Hmmm I would doubt Toys R Us would let you park for free all day! Seems unlikely in somewhere like Southampton

Free roadside parking available within 5 minutes walk of Macclesfield - come out of the station, turn right, down slope and right under northern end of station and cross road parallel to rail line. Going straight up the hill is Buxton Road which has unrestricted parking on it and on side roads. Very popular during the week but more available at weekends. I've left cars there overnight quite happily, including the spaces opposite Qwik Fit which are very close to the station.

Anyone know any good places for parking in Carlisle? £8 at the station and there is a few council car parks but not sure if I'd want to park in those at 6 in the morning.

I think the parking at Stonehaven is free, not 100% sure though as I don't drive so don't tend to notice these things.

From my experience in the past (albeit a good bit past!) the council car park between the lines north of the station and the old avoiding line should be fine at that time and only a few minutes walk from the station. Its a long stay rather than short stay.

Alternatively, if coming in from Newcastle side, park for free down near the football ground and walk up the rest of Warwick Road to the town centre - 15 mins I'd say.

Any ideas which roads are free in that area? I've driven down them before so will know how to get to the station, just don't want to be driving around looking for a space in case I'm running late (which I hopefully shouldn't be).

Have used it many times - seems to be the winner 1 VT Service an Hour to London.

Most stations in the West Midlands have free parking at "regional level" as well some of which are very big car parks...Blackheath and Cradley Heath spring to mind.

I would guess the West Midlands has more Free Parking at stations than any other area in the country - apart from Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry.
