I think these are made worse by being cross county boundary journeys, so don't attract subsidy, but that could be wrong.
Hinckley and Narborough are both in Leicestershire actually. Might also have something to do with the fact that there are no other alternatives apart from the trains to make that journey, I think.

Its because Manchester - Wilmslow is in the GMPTE, Where as the route to Crewe is not I'm afraid.
