Foam concrete would presumably not put up much of an obstacle should they wish to reopen the arch.Presumably this stops any fanciful ideas about Metrolink one day coming through along the old fast line track bed!

Not really as that was how Farnworth tunnel was enlarges by filling with foam concrete then breaking it out with FillyPresumably this stops any fanciful ideas about Metrolink one day coming through along the old fast line track bed!
This shows the pipe bridge is being removed too. After works:
Indeed, but given that's a Form 001 drawing we're a long way from construction. 12 months perhaps. Surprising is the lack of any track, OLE or ancillary civils detail on the drawing. Its all pre-cast concrete they are using so works could be done in only a couple of weeks.
This? This shows the pipe bridge is being removed too.
That is the proposed general arrangement drawing, Form 001/Approval in Principle. It is an engineering drawing and not bespoke for the council. The lack of any other disciplines detailed is unusual. They wouldnt have to provide that level of trackside detail to the Council, they are only required to courtesy inform them of the bridge change while everything on the railway alignment itself is exempt from the local planning process.
Yes that's itThis?
Historic bridge! Old, yes, but hardly notable architecturally notable!

"Ugly old bridge"
Well the image is from Google Street View, so I'd guess it's an error stitching the photos together.Curious as to why there's two Double Arrow logos next to Hindley Station's name in one of the newspaper photos...
Thought as much... thanks for clarificationWell the image is from Google Street View, so I'd guess it's an error stitching the photos together.
A British ability to regard anything old as "heritage"...Historic bridge! Old, yes, but hardly notable architecturally notable!
A lot of sleepless nights for locals though but that's progress! So it looks like 2023 should see major progress on the route . Great news.
I am home xmas and was thinking of doing a car tour of the sites but sounds like there won’t be too much to see until 2023.A lot of sleepless nights for locals though but that's progress!
Whilst it's a shame to hear, I suspect this represents the financial constraints that public infrastructure is now operating under.Tonight's public drop in meeting in Hindley was lively. We were presented with a fait acompli of what is going to happen. The bridge replacement contractor was there and there was a representative of Network Rail. We were shocked to discover that Ladies Lane will be shut from March 13th through to July 14th, some 126 days (we were previously told 4 to 6 weeks). That will create chaos inHimdley and the two long diversionary routes. Wigan council (no representation at the meeting apart from 2 local councillors who knew nothing) has specified that the bridge will reopen with exactly the same unsafe pavement dimensions and chicaine as is there now. Lists and disabled access will be provided at a much later date by TfGM.
So no real consultation and many missed opportunities to make access safer and residents' lives easier by better coordination.
Underwhelmed to say the least.
Is HRA a person's initials or an organisation?HRA requested that the footpaths on either side were widened for pedestrian safety as one side of the bridge has a very narrow footpath,
The Guidance to the Equality Act requires that whenever work affecting public access is carried out the result must be at least as good for all of the protected groups and if it is a new structure it must conform to present standards.Er... the Equality Act 2010 requires that reasonable adjustments are required for disabled people, although the wheelchair gauge is normally 850mm.
NR should take advice, before m'learned friends find out.

I was going to ask that, too!Is HRA a person's initials or an organisation?
