Hi guys, my cousin is starting a new job in Southall next week. He'll be working Mondays to Fridays and is travelling from Slough. Is it worth him getting a weekly ticket or monthly for the first few weeks?

Thanks in advance for your help.

What always works out best (assuming he won't use the ticket as much at weekends, if so, ignore this!) is to buy a ticket for an odd period (you can buy one for any period from 1 month to 1 year) - so it starts on a Monday and finishes on a Friday. You can then work it around holidays etc too :)

If you don't want to run to the expense of a yearly then a monthly 'odd amount' (to finish on the next Friday) makes sense.

If starting a job I would think about starting with weeklies though, while I worked through the trial period, just in case things didn't work out!

At what times does he need to travel? Does he have any Railcards?

He needs to be there for 8.30am so I'd imagine travelling between 7-7.30am. Also he has to use a bus to get from Southall station to his work so would he be better off using his oyster card or a plus bus ticket?

There is no plusbus for travel within London. He will need a Travelcard to be able to do that.

Slough - Southall

Anytime Day Return: £8.80
Weekly Season: £35.50
Monthly Season: £136.40 with each additional day being approximately £4.50 for odd-period seasons

Slough - London Zones 4-6

Weekly Travelcard: £40.60
Monthly Travelcard: £156.00 with each additional day being approximately £5.20

There is no PlusBus ticket available for stations in London. The simplest ticket for your needs would be a Slough to London Zones 4-6 Travelcard which would cost £40.60 a week or £156 a month.

Can he perhaps catch the bus from Hayes & Harlington instead? The Slough - Zones 5-6 ticket is then £34.70/week or £133.30/month

To save even more money - you can get the TfL route 81 bus from Slough to Harlington Corner then take another bus from there - £72.20 a month for unlimited bus use in London!
