XC want to abandon Doncaster

Looking at it logically, York-Leeds-Sheffield has the XC service, has a limited EMT intercity service for part of the route and the thrice hourly FTPE service from York-Leeds, it is therefore clearly busy.

The York-Doncaster-Sheffield route has fewer through services, although does have the NEEC service from York to Doncaster, so whilst partially busy, it clearly doesn't have the demand and if the ECML is as busy as everyone wants us to believe, it is a logical choice.

Just like to point out that it's not Arriva XC, it's just cross country. If it was called Arriva XC then us at Arriva Trains Wales would now all be on a hell of a lot more money due to parity.

to be honest, I think people seem to think there is no life north or west of London - the only improvements we get in the east midlands is the opening of East Midlands Airport station (which is going well), and a direct London - Lincoln service once a day. woohoo :???:

Eh...... FSR and FGW are not on parity - separate franchises, separate T&C's.

Tell announcers that - Doncaster often announces it as Arriva Cross Country

Maybe that's why they're losing the service ;)

I can see the logic in that many NXEC services already call at Doncaster, which on the surface appears to negate any need for a Doncaster-Scotladn service. Problem is, as you've all said, Doncaster now has extremely few direct services into Scotland. Sure, there's the possiblity of transfer at York/Sheffield/Leeds, but why should people bother?
This argument is a red herring.

While I agree with you that it's a bad move, bear in mind what you've said makes little sense as the Doncaster services do not go to Scotland at present, so there is no change to the Scotland service to Doncaster. Doh! ;)

Thanks just wondered. Remember last year when the cotswolds and Gloucester got flooded after most parts of Yorkshire, that the Summer Saturdays hsts didnt make it beyond birmingham and they went North to Edinburgh vice voyager as 9Sxx.

Something to do with the train length I believe?

9xxx is any Anglo-Scottish Cross Country service. It was supposededly introduced to cut down on delays, by the fact the signaller would recognise is as an XC service, and route it accordingly.

Aye, Class 9 should in theory go ahead of Class 1 allowing crisis to be averted elsewhere on the Class 9's journey!

9V57?

Is that headcode a double voyager or an Hst, and whats dates is it due to run please.

9V57 is currently a single class 221 diagram GLC-PNZ.

As David said, all our XC services in Scotland that go into England are 9xxx headcodes. They get priority over other trains (class 1s and 2s, for example), due to the distances involved, although I don't know if it gets priority over a 3xxx priority ECS service).

I was on a busy NXEC limited stop express the other week which had a 5 min wait at York for it's booked time. While waiting, one of these annoying class 9 short DMUs running 20 late turned up and departed about 1 min before our booked departure time, with more station calls.

Needless to say, we had to wait outside Darlington and again near Durham (where we didn't call), and again at Newcastle. I imagine it would have been like that all the way to Edinburgh. Had a 10 min connection become a 4 minute dash as a result!

I'm all for routeing Voyagers ahead of slow all-stoppers, especially between Birmingham and Derby where the Voyagers can do it in approx 30 compared to around 50 for an all shacks, but putting a 4 or 5 coach DMU in front of a 9 coach express with 3 times as many passengers on board is crackers.

It doesnt exactly say though that all the services they plan to run wont call at Doncaster. And most trains that run through to Leeds call at Doncaster, Wakefield Westgate and Leeds anyways. BUT, there are a lot of services that dont need other services to get to London from York and Doncaster, so it really wont be that bad a miss.

No Crosscountry trains run direct from Leeds to Doncaster.

There's a few odd ones in the early morning. The cross country network on paper can easily get from anywhere on the network to anywhere on the network as most if not all pass New St. However due to companies getting fined every time a train is late they have to cut services short and make it into a commuter style.

XC Services are too mixed up anyway, From Bournemouth in the mornings the service is:

0945:Waverly(cant spell) Via Reading, Birmingham, Doncaster, York and the rubbish up to Newcastle and then the long drag to Waverly.

Now heres the catch:

1045 : Manchester Picc, Takes a differnt route :|

Reason I called the Newcastle bit crap is because its such along drag...

Newcastle - Waverly is hardly a drag - often its all the way at full speed (with maybe one or two stops)!

The service from Bournemouth is roughly one hour Scotland, next hour Manchester Piccadilly.

From the end of this year it will be all Manchester via Coventry & Stoke-on-Trent (with one or two late nighters via Wilmslow) apart from one Newcastle, and a single Nottingham - Bournemouth trip. So that'll please you Fred.

The good news is the Summer Saturday Expresses, which are the 0945 and 1045 are staying, these two are fast from Basingstoke to Birmingham New Street.

I think the Sc services are too mixed up

The Am ex Bomo
0945 to Edinburgh, via Reading, Birmingham, Doncaster, York & all stops to Newcastle

1045 to Manchester Picc takes a different route

Which I think would be expected because Manchester is not on the same line at Newcastle.
