Following on from this thread (http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=117073).

Are there any nicer liveries?

I personally like the Scotrail Barbie Livery. I know not many people do, but I think it looked good on the 170s, 156s. 158s and 322s.

I'm also a fan of the current Scotrail livery, particularly on the 380s.

The livery in my current avatar (as of 14/6/2015) is certainly interesting. I prefer it to the current Northern Rail one, anyway.

For people in the future, here's the livery:

Class 180s tend to look good in anything. The Grand Central & Hull Trains liveries are brilliant on them.

Finally, the WYMETRO livery is another great one.

I liked plain WYMetro Red with one white stripe.
GNER Blue also looked very smart.

I really like the London Midland livery on the 321s (I prefer Silverlink on them but that is probably just because that is how I remember them). The TPE 350s look quite good too! 47580 also looks really good as does the old scotrail on them and NSE.

But my all time favourite is...

Virgin on an 87! Closely followed by VT on a 47 but 87 definitely beats it.

BR blue on the HST. Still think IC swallow is the best to hit 91s and mk4. Liked provincial on the 150s much better than reverse provincial on the 150/1 as built.

I really like the West Yorkshire Metro liveries as well - particularly the one with the single white stripe. Like backontrack I also quite like the original Northern Rail livery as well which I too think is better than the current livery

Others that I like are Arriva Trains (both schemes), the new Merseyrail liveries, Northern Electrics, CrossCountry and the Regional Railways "Sprinter" livery

British Rail blue and grey, Strathclyde orange and black, Network SouthEast, Merseytravel yellow/white/grey and First Great Eastern's initial livery would have to be my favourites.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but I always liked the Silverlink livery. It was always one of the most distinctive brands amongst the early TOCs. It hands down beats anything with an excess of white in my book.

That is a nice livery I agree. I think it's a nice combination of colours that blend together really well and it sits well on a lot of the unit classes that Silverlink operate. The silver and blue livery is quite smart too in my opinion

I'm a big fan of that one too, looks very smart!

It looks even better in real-life, trust me, I stayed up late to go see the sleeper carriage. It was even hauled by the GWR 57.

I kike Network South East. Surprised no-one's mentioned GNER, particularly the original before they had to paint the doors red.

One of my favourites (and I appreciate not everyone's!) was the short lived Thameslink one. All over light grey with full body height logos. At the time it was introduced it was very bold in the sense of being very different to anything before (mostly variations on stripes).

They look Steam Punk. Really good. What year does the loco date from compared to an 86 or 87?

The class BB16000 were built from 1958 to 1963; a dwindling number of their close relative the BB17000 ( 1965 - 1968 ) remain in daily service although they will be very thin on the ground indeed by the end of the year.

All things sectors! IC Swallow looked fantastic and Provincial Sprinter, in my mind, was also pretty good looking.
Also, most of the early franchise liveries; Silverlink, Central Trains, Anglia Railways, Early SWT to name a few.

The short lived 'jaffa cake' used on the Southern Region looked good. I've always felt the intercity Swallow or the APT livery still look modern today.

There's been a few different WYPTE liveries over the years, all of which I quite liked. The first was the green and cream which was only ever carried by unrefurbished 141s, then came the first red and cream with the broad cream stripe. This was worn by refurbished 141s; 144s from new; 155341-7; and 158901-910 along with the 307s and 321s. The revised version of this livery with the thinner stripe was carried by 144s, 155s, 308s and 321s. The final one was the one posted on page one of this thread, and only found it's way onto a few 158s and the 144s after they were refurbished. There was another variant which was a West Yorkshire specific version of Northern Spirit colours. I don't think all 10 of the Metro sponsored 158s wore this before it was superceded by the version on page 1. The 333s were delivered in this livery, and they lingered for quite some time after NS were consigned to history.

GNER will take some beating in this thread though, I'd guess.

I honestly like the Gatwick Express and it always stands out at Victoria Station compared to the dross of Southern and Southeastern around it

I have always liked the London Overground livery on the 378s.
Smart straight lines, and the roundel right in the middle is perfectly placed and is strangely assertive (if that makes sense).

I actually think that Chiltern's livery on the MK3s looks classy. IC Swallow too.
