Van Gaal and Ferguson like to shout right in your face to make a (football) point.

Many times, I have seen this mode of conversation (not football related) employed by Britons when trying to give directions to persons from overseas...

Given Oldham owners like to do thing on cheap side I wouldn't be surprise to see David Dunn become our new player/Manager plus when we sign Dunn back in July lot of our fans believe he be our new manager before xmas as quite lot of them thought Darren Kelly will get boot by xmas, we wait and see who become new Oldham boss.

Your crystal ball is still as good as ever, as David Dunn was been appointed manager on an interim basis. To ensure a modicum of stability, all the coaching staff will remain in their existing jobs.

I hope Dunn do well at Oldham but I feel is no different to what Kelly have brought to team already, I do wonder how Dean Holden haven't been given boot as since he become Oldham caretaker/Assistant Manager Oldham have only won four times in 24 matches.

F A Cup....1st qualifying round

Darlington 1....Hyde United 3

Not in a month of Sundays did I see that one coming. I wonder what DarloRich thinks of this result.

I think we didn't play well, looked lethargic, didn't really create, looked sloppy at the back, Hyde took their chances and we didn't look bothered. I am quite disappointed as the FA cup is a good money spinner for clubs at our level although we have had a policy since our enforced demotion of only focusing on the league.

Hyde deserved to win and I hope they do well in the next round

Leicester City 3...Aston Villa 2

After Aston Villa had gone 2-0 up in the second-half and were still 2-1 up with seven minutes of normal time to play, I can well imagine SS4 watching in amazement at the final score and thinking of the advert (Specsavers?) and saying to himself....."What sort of game was that?"...

Take nothing away from Leicester City (shades of the 5-3 against Man Utd last season) but Tim Sherwood's tactical failings were there again for all to see! Out of his depth?

Swindon Supermarine 0...Winchester City 4 (Bentley 12, 75, Barron 47, Cann 85)

For the second season running, Winchester City march into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. Despite a nervy spell in the second half, Swindon Supermarine were unable to finish in front of goal, and ultimately paid the price. One Chelsea fan on twitter has called for Chelsea to sign Warren Bentley...!

And our reward is a home tie against Maidenhead United.

F A Cup....Draw for second qualifying round.

Hyde United will be wondering if being drawn at home (noting their ability to only win away from home) against Northwich Victoria will be a bad cup draw.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

I see that 'the Premier League's best manager' left Newcastle in rather bad shape.

.....but then worked wonders at Crystal Palace in the final games of last season.

I was referring to John Carver.

When you've been a Villa fan as long as I was in fact fully expecting us to cock it up

Just been looking at the match statistics of the home match against Peterborough United. Oldham Athletic had 23 shots on goal, of which 9 were on target. Yet they lost 1-5 at home.

Something very strange, indeed, appears to be happening at Boundary Park.

Noting the common managerial connection of Pardew at Newcastle United and at Crystal Palace, what would you say was the main difference in the two playing squads under his management. Are Crystal Palace stronger in certain areas of the field?

It might not even be Palace are stronger. Team bond and unity is almost as important as skill if not more important. The rugby team I play for of our squad of about 20, 14 or 15 of us are good mates and drinking buddies which is reflected on the field

I see that once Shaw of Manchester United finally begins to play like a mature attacking full-back, he then ends up with a leg injury in the first match of the Champions League group stages.

I wonder who will be his cover?
Probably a mixture of Rojo and Blind, although which one of the two goes at left back and who goes at centre half
is probably up for debate.

Just feel sorry for Luke Shaw though, last year was so stop/start for him and given how we had started this year it couldn't have come at a worse time

the injury to Shaw looked a terrible one. Awful. I hope he is not as badly hurt as it appears.

It is. And it was a disgraceful tackle.

I feel very sorry for Luke Shaw.

As for Manchester United, given their then manager rang up Ryan Shawcross to make sure he was OK after almost destroying Aaron Ramsey's career with a similar "tackle", I guess that's karma repaying them nicely.

Reports this morning make reference to a double leg fracture.

Yes, out for 6 months according to the Grauniad. I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Strange thing is the tackle didn't look too bad at first sight, years ago it would have just been a normal strong challenge. Reminds me of the DeJong tackle on that Newcastle lad (Ben Arfa?) where his studs stuck in the turf. Possbly that's what happened this time.

aye they've probably spent decent money on a couple of proven players. Don't worry though Pardew will manage all that ability out of them.

Only Chelsea managing to get a victory in the first round of the champions league group stages, not the best advertisement for the English Premiership

With the early exits of West Ham and Southampton and the poor showings this week the 'best league in the world' © Sky and Thierry Henry are running the risk of losing the 4th CL spot.

Sky won't be bothered they have no rights to either champions league or Europa league barring highlights.

UEFA Women's European Championship....Qualifying Group 5

Germany 12....Hungary 0

There is no truth in the rumour that all the Hungarian lady players were on emergency barricade duty on their national borders and the team that they put out was really the Rothes team from the Highland League "in drag"....:D

Doncaster 1-1 Oldham

Burn score his first goal for Oldham but should it count it as I have hear that ball didn't past the line when Doncaster clear it. Aleast Oldham didn't lose but we are now in bottom 4 and still can't goal more then one goal this season (I think is 13 matches since Oldham scored more then one goal)

Huddersfield 4-1 Bolton Wanderers

Going a goal down inside 5 minutes, expected another dreary day of disinterested "professional footballers" barely turning up. At 40 minutes we could have been 3 down but a goal from Emyr Huws just before the break must've inspired the passion in Chris Powell's half-time team talk. We started the second half very much with the bit between our teeth and went on to win 4-1 with goals from Carayol, Huws again, and Lynch... Just shows what we can do when we have an attacking mindset rather than the over-cautious approach we've used up until this week!
