Dear All

I wonder if you can help. I am trying to complete part 2 of the application process where a questionnaire must be completed. I have entered my code which says it is invalid.

I was advised that a new weblink and code can be found on the mtr crossrail website. Does anyone know how I can access it, I have been looking everywhere?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Drazky,

So on stage 3 of the VSE would you suggest I finish the dot side if the test before I even look at the letter side? I know it has priority but I thought we were supposed to do them at the same time. Since you were succesful I was wondering about tactics as I know there is no way Im finish the 3rd stage in time.

I counted the symbols were changing every 3 seconds,if you didn't click by the time it changed then you got incorrect choice automatically.
The method is to wait for the dot to move on the left, click if error, then move cursor over to right of page as now the symbols have changed and click correct or incorrect.then back to the left of the page for the dot.repeat !
No I'm not trying to make it sound easy,I failed.
But good luck to all still to try.

Did it in Friday and very quickly realised what was expected. Gotta say that third part is one little hard test. Was sweating a bit near the end. Done a few mistakes as it gets hectic near the end. Heres hoping. Waiting to hear in the next couple of weeks if I have done enough.

Well done and good luck next year !
My hands were sweating and doing it on a laptop touchpad instead of a mouse was my downfall :(

I'm curious, these positions are advertised as Old Oak Common, but the Paddington services aren't beginning until May 2018...How does that work?

Sat the stage 2 online exams, questions about your suitability for the role, and I haven't heard back from OOC other than "wait 10 working days", an email to them has also gone unanswered. This happened to anyone else?

Hi, I had to wait about 6 days for a reply.

They also didn't reply to my e-mail I sent.

Sit tight & good luck:smile:

Received an email today confirming I have made it to the assessment centre in early March :D . Definitely agree with all earlier posts, for the VSE tests you need to use a mouse and not a track pad or touch screen.

I aced the first two tests but made a few mistakes on the third, so don't give up hope if you weren't perfect...

Good luck to all those sitting assessments in the New Year! Having been through the whole process with GTR, I know how nerve wracking it can be. My girlfriend probably gave me the most important piece of advice before I started the assessments - treat it like a game, not a test. Basically, try and make it fun. Also, on the subject of games, I was also told that playing video games gives you an advantage because of the occasional multitasking and hand-eye coordination, especially during the second assessment day!

Good luck for the 6th.

I have mine too, in early February.

Been getting stuck into pages and pages of the group bourbon dot tests in the last few weeks.

Done the practice pages, crossrail provided quite a few times as well.

What sort of practice have you been doing to prepare yourself for the assessment?

Any tips be very much appreciated.

Cheers.

I've applied to be a team leader at Old oak common. Depending on outcome, I may be training some of you. Regardless of outcome, just want to say good luck all. :) nice to see lots of people interested and tips shared

I meant the material provided in the email from MTR Crossrail. GBT stands for Group Bourdon Test, there's a program available to be downloaded that mimics the real test. Just google it, download and you are set to go :)

And good luck to you too. Looks like you might be the person to ask: if one is lucky/good enough to be offered the trainee position, how long does it take to fully qualify? Also, are there people who cant keep up and do not pass the process?

This would differ from TOC to TOC, the amounts of tractions you have to learn, the amount of available DI's. It's taking about 15 months at the moment at my depot to get through from start to finish, I'm aware at LOROL that this is less as they have less routes and only one traction, about 9-10 months. But it would be difficult to give an exact time frame as this is all new.

As for pass or fail, yes, people do fail, but if I would give you a golden piece of advice here it is...

1) make sure your DI is challenging you, it's easy for a driving instructor to become complacent and talk about sports or whatever once you get good. However he or she should be challenging you and preparing you for your final. Your DI is effectively a role model driver you inspire to be.

2) if you don't understand anything during rules or traction, ask. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and if you don't understand it, someone else in your group may not, and you don't want to do the mistake of going home and reading up on the wrong section or not reading at all and coming in with completely the wrong information the next day.

3) professional attitude and a try hard approach will assist. You are measured on your personality as well as your productivity

4) enjoy training but remember it's a serious role. So if you are a little bit of a comedian like me, know when to switch this on and off.

5) you need to put in hours of personal time to read up on things to revise for tests etc. It doesn't have to be hours and hours, but it will help.

6) I'm a firm believer of the following quotes.

"Progression defines success"
"Don't wish yourself good luck, but tell yourself never to give up"

I hope this pep talk works. I'm now going to drive round the Hounslow loop.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Sounds like as long as you make the effort and work hard you should be able to make it through.. Just trying to gauge how much of a risk it would be to quit my current (reliable but annoying) job pursuing the dream job. I know I am getting a bit ahead of myself there hehe
