I've already got my trip on the Falcon planned.

Local bus to Newport, X7 to Bristol (both free with bus pass) and then to Plymouth on the 10.30 service and returning on the 16.15. Can get a rail advance back to Newport for £2.80 and local bus home to Caerphilly. Total cost £4.80 :D

I've just got a worry that if the £1 fares are well publicized the demand for daytime journeys will way exceed seat availability.

The timetable is a mess and difficult to make sense of. Why cannot it just be done in sections for Monday to Friday, Saturday & Sundays all separate?

I see there are different journey times end to end depending on the particular journey and / or day the service runs. I presume the "padding" between Bristol Airport and Bristol city centre is to allow for traffic in the city at certain times?

Personally I think the amount of people who will be willing and able to use the service on weekdays will be limited, most new services start off quiet, so this is a good way to kick start proceedings.

On weekends leisure travellers could make things pretty cosy.

Prices and a better timetable for the Falcon here.

Don't think my Megarider gold is going to work, due to being the same price as the monthly one just between Plymouth and Exeter(£94).

Falcon fares seem a bit crazy to me .

Plymouth to Taunton £7.30 single and £7,50 return,

Taunton to Bristol £6.50 single and £7.50 return BUT

Plymouth to Bristol £22 single and £25 return.

So buying two tickets will save £9.20 on a single and £10 on a return.

The complete journey should be priced at £12.50 single and £14 return.

It does state that 'A through ticket must be bought on boarding for the full length of your journey. If you wish to split your journey into sections you must disembark and catch a later coach.', however I cant see how that can stop you getting off and then joining the end of the queue again. In the reverse direction (for returns) you'd have the ticket for the full length of the journey anyway! I cant see the structure surviving more than a couple of irate letters to local papers about it!

This is clearly a strategy not to steal advance customers from Megabus.

The Plymouth- Bristol Megabus doesn't seem to call at Taunton, so through customers would be better to book a week in advance with megabus.

A quick look at Megabus for Plymouth to Bristol in the launch week, £8 single, except on the 9am arrival into Bristol which is £10.
Book more in advance so looking at march Megabus can be done for under a fiver each way.

I must ask, with this £1 launch fare it states:

"*Any single or return journey between two points along the route"

So is that Bristol Cabot Circus to Plymouth included as well or does it mean for stops between Bristol and Plymouth, I.E you can do Bristol Airport to Laira and stops before, but not the whole thing from Bristol Cabot to Plymouth?

had my first offical visit to The Ride this morning thanks to Stagecoach for the permission.

There were 86 buses present highlights being

3 Megabus coaches 54266/270/273
7 Falcons 54320 was the one missing so all have been delivered.
17701 is stored in the paint shop.
10497-10503 all present so all Plymouth's new Stagecoach buses have arrived.
The 4 East Lancs bodied Tridents belonging to First were also present all now with there First numbers reapplied 32757/761 also having Stagecoach fleetnumbers in the front window.
Stored Tridents were 17299/337 unfit
17290 reserve
17002/006/295 off fleet
and unmarked
17005/055/297/294/289
in use
17010/329/066/057/058/038/670/051/011/056/330
10460 was in the workshop and is yet to enter service.

Hope this is of interest

safe to say the belles express has been a disaster

Hardly a disaster. Stagecoach tried something using mid life vehicles and have scaled it back (but havent withdrawn it completly). Given the number of times a decker has appeared on it recently I suspect one of the original coaches has already been reallocated. Hopefully the revised timetable will become viable in the longer term.

The whole thing, or part way, I don't think it matters, and they are all £1.

Falcon FAQs are up - https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-west/fly-the-south-west-falcon/sw-falcon-faqs

Waiting for confirmation to see if the South West Explorer is valid between Taunton and Plymouth.

Confirmation

@StagecoachSW Will the Explorer ticket be valid on the Falcon Service at all? Your website is a bit ambiguous? Thanks

Stagecoach SouthWest
‏Explorer tickets are valid between specific zones, Plymouth- Taunton or from Taunton-Bristol is one explorer ticket Thanks

the belles express is going backwards a bit due to the reduction in frequency, but then on the plus side it is now going down to bristol city centre - i wonder if this proves to be a success as we were previous thinking last year, and as a result stagecoach turn it into a big PR success that they are increasing the service frequency.

in other news, gloucestershire county council have finished their review of bus services - expect a number of changes both commercially and subsidised services late spring 2016.

I am doing a 24 hour or so trip on the new Falcon service on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th Feb, making use of the £1 promotional fare, I will start on 1pm from Plymouth on Monday, and finish sometime on Tuesday, probably afternoon. Will take pics and report on it when back home.

There was a Stagecoach Gold decker heading south on the M5 on Wednesday morning with "North Bristol Express" on the destination. Presumably it was pretending to be a Belle.

The Falcon is being publicised quite heavily here in Exeter with exterior adverts on buses and banner ads at the top of the Express & Echo website. Coach 54322 was parked up in Bedford Square this afternoon and was attracting a fair bit of attention. I followed 3 elderly ladies out of the libaray and they were discussing about going to Bristol. They were aware of the £1 launch offer and when is was available and knew what the fare would be subsequently.

Looks like the Falcon could be quite busy next week and not just with bus enthusiasts.

So we are just hours away from the launch of the Falcon Service.... very intresting that there are rumors that the service may have a slight issue with calling into Bristol Airport / the Airport Stop might not actually be the Airport.... can any one confirm that this is true.

No publicity of the service at the airport at present and rumors that permits for the coaches to access the airport might not have been issued

If you go to swfalcon.com and look at the pdf maps that can be downloaded of the main stops, you will see the stop for Bristol Airport is North Side Road, same stop towards Bristol and Plymouth - the map suggesting just outside the terminal building. Might be worth a tweet to @stagecoachsouthwest if you want confirmation. Cheers!

Thursday night caught the 2255 megabus off redruth to London overnight.
Must say first time I've been disappointed by megabus. Hired in vehicle, Stagecoach drivers.
Firstly the driver tried denying boarding of several passengers because he had the date wrong.
From redruth to Bristol, both the drivers had it like a sauna with temperature, cue waking up repeatedly sweating profusely, Bristol to London driver went for the other extreme and went artic, cue waking up shivering.
The hired in coach had no toilet and a seemingly incontinent chap from newquay to Bristol resulting in several services stops at the request of said passenger, every toilet stop on came all the cabin lights waking up majority of passengers.
I normally sleep ok but Thursday night seemed to be an exception.
Hopefully my return tomorrow 1200 off London will be better.

Temperature on the coaches is probably the biggest complaint on the Megabus twitter feed, and it is tricky to get the balance right for everyone. Did you let the driver(s) know you weren't happy with the temperature? As in my experience they usually adjust as requested.

The incontinent chap sounds like a complete nightmare!

Who was the coach hired in from, by the way?

Turners of Bristol **55cjt

Other passengers mentioned to the driver so I didn't personally feel necessary to repeat.
