Anything interesting expected to happen in the December timetable change? I am aware that London Midland are adding more, faster evening Crewe trains but cannot find the details anywhere.

What else?

Certainly round my neck of the woods (Yorkshire and Manchester) I have not heard of any major changes. New stock will not have started arriving yet, neither will the cascades have started so I can't imagine Northern or TPE are going to do anything big. No electrification will be complete either as far as i am aware. All running into 2017.

The only change i can think of up north would be extra Rochdale services using new turnback platform.

I could of course be wrong on all counts!

Rolling stock for this remains a mystery, as discussed in earlier threads...

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Forgive me for stating what may seem to be the bleeding obvious, but when I first learned about placenames back in my primary schooldays (a very long time ago), and when I recently looked at a map, I am pretty sure that Newcastle is actually north of York and not east from it.

If true, I am willing to teach those who put out that statement a geography lesson.

It's actually northwest. But you can forgive TPE for treating their services as shuttling between 'east of the Pennines' and 'west of the Pennines' given that they're called, er, Trans-Pennine.

I think we can forgive this once as technically the York services will go to Manchester Airport or Liverpool which is definitely West of Newcastle.

Significant cuts to WCML Sunday service to/from Euston for the majority of weeks due to HS2 works starting.

Not quite from December but from 8th August when Glasgow Queen Street High Level reopens the stopping patterns of low level services are changing.

The current Milngavie to Edinburgh services that run express between High Street and Coatbridge Sunnyside will additionally call at Shettleston, Carntyne and Bellgrove. The Helensburgh Central to Edinburgh service will miss these stops and run from High Street to Garrowhill.

As usual with this, treat everything with caution as we're nowhere near the twelve week horizon yet, but potential developments / changes are shown in OTT. Just had a look for Chiltern to and from Oxford and they're in, for example:

1T29 1205 Marylebone to Oxford

One of the new Newcastle to Manchester Airport trains. Seem to have interesting calling patterns in order to not hold up anything else. This one calls Darlington, York, Leeds, Huddersfield and Picc, whereas a later inbound train stops at Durham instead of Darlington

Yes indeed - until the final schedules are published treat everything as draft.

We have at least twice had lengthy threads here (one memorably castigating Virgin for cancelling a train that they hadn't) based on incomplete/incorrect information that people saw on RTT or OTT.

Until the final timetable PDFs appear, treat everything as draft!

I was hoping that Northern would finally stop using DMU times on 319 diagrams. They ought to have more than enough cover for them by then.

Perhaps 100mph timings for 319s on Northern routes are not in the Database yet as they should be. They only work stopping trains and every service along the route may not be booked a 319 so they keep to a standard speed for the route, i.e. 75mph.

Top speed isn't particularly relevant. I think the only place their 319s can work above 90 is Wigan to Preston. They ought to be retimed because they accelerate faster than pacers and sprinters.

It's not true they only work stopping trains though, they are fastest services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly and that's a 90 mph route not 75.

I honestly don't think we will see the faster timings until the big December 2017 timetable shakeup. Post chord and when all the TPE services head over Chat Moss. There is so much engineering work going to be going on with the blockades at Liverpool and Blackpool, the chord works and the impact of electrification works I think the timetable for the next 18 months is going to be chopped and changed so much that speeding up the services will be the last thing on people's minds.

December 2017 or even May 2018 before these are running at their optimum timings.

I'm not clear why there would need to be any discussion on where the stock is coming from for the extended Transpennines, they will utilise one of the sets otherwise laying over at York between the peaks. Since there are three of them a better question might be why aren't there more?

Any major timetable changes in Scotland? Can only think of the opening of Edinburgh gateway station buy nothing else.

I think there's an early morning Perth to Inverness service (leaves Perth like 0545) and the 0712 Blair Atholl to Edinburgh now starting at inverness. Anything in the north east (edinburgh/glasgow/dundee to Aberdeen line)

I now see that we have a 0533 Newcastle to Liverpool TPE that runs via Warrington from December. I'm sure this used to start in Middlesbrough but it's more than welcome as far as I'm concerned.

There were supposed to be 7 car services starting on Edinburgh - Glasgow via Falkirk High. I guess this is no longer happening because the route will not be electrified in time?

Because it is standard practice to have at least some spares off-peak. Won't this mean that there are none or that there is only one?

Interesting with the 18:30/18:42 as before the 19:35(ish) service was introduced, it used to be the 18:30 and call everywhere anyway. Seems the demand is there for them to reintroduce the Morpeth and Alnmouth calls.

05:08 Perth to Inverness to balance the earlier Inverness starter.

Lots of small changes for Bolton. For example, the daily 07:22 Crewe to Bolton is cut back to terminate Manchester Piccadilly. Presumably this is to allow for the service to run as an EMU (despite still being timed for a DMU)

Now: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y14292/2016/10/03
Future: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y64118/2016/12/19
This is still running to Bolton. You've just picked a day where there's no service to Bolton etc from the Piccadilly side. Notice how there's also no Hazel Grove to Blackpool (terminating Oxford Road) or Manchester Airport to Southport services either.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Some very small changes to Northern however are different headcodes.

Clitheroe to Manchester Vic trains will become 2Bxx
Manchester Vic to Southport trains will become 2Lxx
Manchester Vic to Kirkby trains will become 2Kxx
Manchester Ox Rd to/from Liverpool trains will become 2Oxx
Wigan NW to Lime Street trains will become 2Cxx
