Been doing this for over five years and getting better and better at it. Last year was only really caught out once when workmen were doing the roof and they had a blasted radio on. Otherwise, it's not too difficult.

Have the internet radio on at home tuned to genres rather than general stations.
Out shopping, avoid shops that play musak; Lidl, Aldi and Tesco's are pretty clean, and if I must go into a shop like that I have my headphones playing white noise drowning it out.
No chance of watching any TV station with ads, and make sure any BBC programmes watched aren't "Christmassy".

You got it, I hate Xmas and anything associated with avengance <D - and if anyone wiches me a M**** ******** I always wonder why they can't wish me a merry whole year round....miserable sods <(<D

Roll on January!!

Hear hear. I'm not as clever as you with song avoidance, but already fed up with half the shops being turned into tinseltown  .

Even the train companies are sending out "book your festive getaway tickets" emails <( .

I think we have to accept that the last six to eight weeks of every year are turned over to stupidity. Every year I hope people will see sense, but I think the idea of binge eating, drinking and partying prevails over common sense.

Who buys all the Christmas food that starts appearing in late October? Much of it is short dated long before Christmas, there must be people who buy it or they wouldn't bother making it.

Personally it makes me fed up long before Christmas actually appears, the onslaught of desperate consumerism, disguised as heartfelt corporate offers and "weepy" TV ads.

Have to disagree; hearing Christmas songs makes me overjoyed and sets in a Christmasy attitude. I can't explain it, but I love it! :)

January on the other hand is probably the most depressing, IMO.

they are fine for the last 2 weeks of December but not mid November. I agree with Tim R-T-C - never understand aisles of Christmas food and chocolates that appear in October and the latter are being remaindered in January - just filling up space and rarely seem to sell - those Lindt chocolate reindeer I'm looking at you.

Hate all of them apart from Fairytale Of New York because it is depressing. Massive death metal fan myself. They don't really fit in with what I am in to. Christianity highjacking pagan festivals followed by neo liberalism highjacking Christianity. Hilarious. I normally volunteer to work Christmas because I think it is a nice thing to do. People who love Christmas don't have to worry they'll have to work. I get paid more, work is dead and I browse the internet for a few hours.

I have my birthday in November, so a couple of big tubs of choccies are just the thing for the office :)

When mate if I can be so bold as to ask? Mine is the 7th. Last two years I have been to Wroclaw and Gdansk on my Birthday. This year am going to Warsaw at the end of the month. Big Polish theme. Ha ha. Had the week off last week and did a few little trips.

Avoiding Christmas songs for me at the moment is quite easy gladly.

Biggest bonus, Shop mostly go to/ Work at doesn't have any speakers so no Music :D

Although don't mind some Christmas songs, which will start to get played in December.

Bloody hell. Do you at least try and get a ticket for the Boxing Day home game (if indeed you are at home).

Ha ha. I'm not a season ticket holder so the only boxing day games I have been to in many a year have been Leeds United at Anfield in 2003 when we scored 3 great goals and away against Man City in 2013 when we (Sort of) battered them and lost 2-1. Nearly won the league that season. Ha ha.

On the plus side I went to the game against Watford the other week. :D

I'll offer to do Chrimbo day on the early shift where I am now, only do 5 hours. I rarely get asked to do any other bank holidays if I do that.

Who are you playing on Boxing Day this season? Can you not get anything on general sale?

And yes you stuffed Watford the other week. I've got £5 on you winning the league.

We've got Stoke on 27/12, I'm working unless I can get a shift swap. General Sale is an interesting concept for us these days. I basically am mates with a load of people (Including some of my longest standing mates) who can get tickets (Me included) General sale is often down to who can get someone to queue outside the ticket office on a particular morning or sit online waiting. Whoever can get tickets does do and then makes sure they get passed on (At face value) to other people in the group. We don't tout or just pass tickets on to anyone. We keep it in the group. You can get a ticket if you really want one (And can make it to the game) but it is hard work to get one for most matches most people want to see even in our group.

My good lady's is at the end of November, not an ideal time. Too early for the good European Christmas Markets (a fun way to visit a city and enjoy cheap liquors and mysterious meats) but late enough that days are short and some places are closed for the season.

Last year we were in Peru (not far from where you avatar pic was taken), this year we are off for a quick railtrip from Kiev to Bucharesti, via Tiraspol.

Did Warsaw in the summer, great place.

I'll probably go do some Christmas shopping when I'm off work next week so I probably won't avoid it then, but I don't actively listen to it until the start of December

I also don't like the abbreviation Xmas either

Hope you enjoyed Peru. Where did you go?

I was in Warsaw last summer mainly for a Death Metal gig but had a good look around.

Does TV still have adverts? Wow, I thought you had to dig them out on youtube nowadays.

Christmas is 6 weeks too early really, I agree with the upthread poster, January is bad, I find February even worse though. Unless there's snow. Short days, but none of the cheer of december.

Looking forward to be shot of 2016 though, it's been a horrendous year.

Why go to such efforts? Why not just tune it out and ignore it? There seems ot be a distinct dislike of Chirstmas on this board. I wonder if it is becuase many are alone and dont have much human contact? How miserable must you be?

You buy it early to freeze and spread the cost
