agree mate. i double checked as i was going as thought it was too good to be true and they were all restaurants and plumbers

My take on it was just look for any pairs on the sheet and circle. ignoring anything else regarding restaurants or plumbers this had nothing to do with the actual task.

Are you sure about that Cheggers? I remember the OPC guy specifically explaining all entries were all the same type of service providers (plumbers for one of them) not just once but twice, because someone asked for clarification on that. Are you saying you checked them and there were different types on there?

I think the yellow one were all plumbers that had double symbols and managed to finish that one but pink one I checked closely and there were some with double symbols that weren't restaurants and so I only got to end of second to last column.

The OPC woman did say before that test to make sure you "only" circle double symbols for restaurants and she emphasised only. Someone asked if they were all restaurants and she just repeated what she said. Pink one there were defo other trades for example one was a farm shop with a double symbol that didn't do food.

Oh dear. I didn't check the types because I thought the verbal instructions were very clear there was only one type on the sheet. If there were several types (which I acknowledge is more usual for these type of tests, albeit with only one symbol to check) then I think the OPC staff have misled a number of us...

Don't worry Purple, I've done the tests twice and I'm pretty certain the phone book sheets were just a case of circling the double symbols. The purpose of the exercise is for you to concentrate on one thing whilst disregarding all the other information, which is designed to distract you!

I think you have done just fine by the sounds of it :)

Did you pass second time Jonny? Can I ask how you prepared second time round if you did?

On my day for the phone book test we were told that the sheet just contained plumbers or just contained restaurants. The purpose was to find double symbols. If you think about it phone books group things together not interspersing different trades, services together. Definitely just check for double symbols.

Hi DJ. Yes I passed the second time, unfortunately if I'm being completely honest I wasn't properly prepared 1st time. Second time I left nothing to chance. I practiced the dots every day before the tests and tried to be ready for the other tests by getting my partner to mock test me listening for tones, practiced reactions using a bop it and had my dad helping me to learn and recall information by reading me paragraphs of text and quizzing me afterwards. I genuinely don't think I would have done as well without all that preparation. You really cannot be overly prepared for these tests.

Fair play mate. The nerves going into the second attempt must have been big!? Pressure! I've gotta try bop it etc, I put the effort in etc but need to up it me thinks.

Massively mate yes. I actually used to have the song 'under pressure' by David Bowie and Queen in my head when practicing the dots test, I found it strangely helpful!!! The day before the second attempt I just felt sick, but on the day, I knew it was now or literally never, kept myself calm and focused and did well :)

It was clarified after someone asked before the test started on the 16th. They were ALL restaurants on one and ALL plumbers on the other. Just a case of circling the double symbols so you could effectively disregard the name of the company.

Nothing yet buddy, they said a week (5 working days so would expect to hear by Wednesday). How did you think you got on? I think I did well in GB and the tea occ. Not sure I did so well in the memory test about Glopp. Will be gutted if thats what lets me down. Think i maybe got around 10/11 out of the 18 for sure. Im sure I will get shot down for saying this as I should of done my research better and learnt about glop but its not really a memory test if people have learnt the information beforehand. I mean would people who get 18/18 would they be able to get that figure if it was about a completly different subject with no prior knowledge? I thought 10 out of 18 would be a good score on a new topic with 5 mins reading but maybe that will not be the case. Oh well am still hopeful have done enough :D

But glop isn't real, it's only loosely based on Sandite

I know mate, but more research should of been done by myself in that area if I had read a bit about sandite and others experiences of testing. Did you do the tests? How do you think you got on?

I was lucky enough to pass it without any knowledge about Sandite

Yes, wierdly for what seems like the simplest bit, i was worried about the glop test, there were two answers I went back and changed as I wasn't sure, and i keep thinking, like yourself, what will the pass mark be, but I suspect there is no pass mark, Chiltern will just sift the results depending how many they need to interview.

There are pass marks. When I did my with another testing we got told on the day pass or fail so the fact chiltern haven't told you suggests they maybe looking to progress the highest scoring people to the next stage. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of people passing the tests but not having their application progressed.

interested to hear how people approached the memory test on the day- did you listen and read at the same speed as the audio, then take notes? did you take notes at the same time as the audio? etc

Yes to all that. Statistically you are massively more likely to remember detail having written it all down.'

The 'Glop' test could be based on the Teletubbies as long as they had numbers and detail to recall. Its not the subject that they are testing you on, its the ability to recall specific detailed information correctly, which could be asked on literally ANY subject.

There absolutely is definitely a pass mark and an enhanced pass mark. I believe enhanced is minimum of 16/18. No idea of a pass mark though.

Hello Jonny, how do you know the enhanced pass mark and how reliable is your information? Thanks

Hi Trio. I suppose different companies can have a different view of what they consider to be enhanced, but I was told 16 off the record. Sorry I can't be specific but it was a reliable source in terms of the scoring. I don't proclaim to know what is expected on all of these tests, the only insider info I was told was 16 for the glop and one mistake on the reactions test were good enough. No info on any other modules though.

Thanks, reading the forums different views crop on pass marks and enhanced passes, so I was interested to know how good your information was. On a personal note I will just have to wait and see what Chiltern make of my scores!
