Orange is the new Green! It looks like they're being brought in line with their parent company, Genesee & Wyoming. Will be interesting to see how long it takes them to rebrand

Yet another orange brand then. A pity as I quite like the Powerhaul livery, especially on the 90s.

Hmm, I presume that this could see the end of the distinctive green and yellow identity of twenty years standing. Bit of a shame as it's quite striking and has grown to become readily identifiable with Freightliner operations.

I wonder if they're planning on doing as Wisconsin Central did with EWS, and adapting/adopting Genessee & Wyoming's orange, black and yellow scheme? Not dissimilar to Colas Rail's colour palette.

I would think so. Rotterdam Rail Feeding is another Genesee & Wyoming operation, and this is how their EMD JT42CWRs look.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is how the Freightliner 66s look as well

That's certainly very striking. Hadn't realised the livery was already applied to some European 66-alikes!

Neither had I until I started looking for it. I was vaguely aware of G&W having their fingers in a lot of pies, but having a European operation with 66s was a pleasant surprise!

Also interesting that they've back pedaled to older Freightliner text font. I suspect this is to avoid a certain about of re-branding.

I'd be surprised if they fully relivery all of Freightliners locos....I suspect it will be a handful like DB did. The rest will probably just be updated with G&W decals.

DB are still working through re-liverying their loco fleet, as far as I am aware - though I presume only when they are due major works attention. I certainly still clock spotless DB Cargo liveried class 66s around the place, suggesting recent repaints.

I'm amazed they have enough money to do that to be honest!

Do not expect an aggressive re liverying process. The current Powerhaul liveried locos have no plan for repainting.

If you look at Freightliners fleet, they are flat out working so stopping a loco for xyz amount of days for repainting is unlikely to happen in the short term.

Yeah, I'd fully expect it to be a gradual, and perhaps never fully completed, process much like that with DB Cargo's loco fleet. There's not exactly been a headlong rush at Freightliner to get existing locos into Powerhaul livery since it was introduced.

There are still some Freightliner (Railfreight) gray 90s in everyday use, so that shows how long re-painting can take.

DB seem to be well on the way to a full rebrand now? They must be at 60% complete?

Flat out, except for the line of stored 70s at Leeds that haven't moved in many months.

There's still plenty of 66s that need doing. Of the 161 DB 66s currently working in the UK, 29 are in versions of DB Verkehrsrot (some still have obsolete DB Schenker branding), 19 are in EWS livery with DB stickers and 112 are still in EWS, 20 years after they were introduced. In contrast, one of their 67s (010) has had 4 liveries in the same period of time: EWS, Chiltern, Caledonian and DB Red!

So... err... just Colas rail then.

Yes the parent company may want to align their global operations to be recognisable everywhere but Walkers/Lays seem to do okay.

Why do they even bother rebranding when they have a current established brand, logo and livery? And it's money they could save or spend elsewhere?

There is now a press release:

Freightliner today unveiled its new brand identity at the Multimodal exhibition at the NEC Birmingham.

Following parent company Genesee & Wyoming’s acquisition of Pentalver Transport last year, the businesses’ commercial teams now serve customers across three core platforms of Rail, Road and Terminals. “With this in mind, it now makes sense to align the Freightliner brand with that of G&W, providing consistency across the three platforms,” said G&W UK/Europe Region CEO Gary Long.

The new Freightliner logo is consistent with that of Pentalver and more than 120 G&W freight railroads in North America, Australia and Europe. The logo is included below and comes into immediate effect on the Freightliner website – www.Freightliner.co.uk.

Freightliner will shortly commence rebranding its intermodal and bulk rail freight terminals throughout the UK as well as its Freightliner Road Services trucks whilst taking a phased approach with other assets, including locomotives and wagons.

Along with the rebranding comes substantial investment in the businesses, primarily through a major transformation in technology. “This investment will drive further improvement in service performance and efficiency from a customer perspective and also facilitate future growth,” says Long. The effort includes developing IT solutions around planning and rostering, terminal operations management and terminal booking, as well as HR & Payroll and asset management globally.

The focus on continuously enhancing the overall safety culture, which has already achieved world-class performance since the G&W acquisition, will continue.
