The McGills 38 is usually operated by 11 plate B7RLEs which were brand new and the 57 plate variants from Arriva with a smattering of 06 plate ones and also the new Citaros.

Believe it or not, the Arriva B7RLEs are in better nick than the First ones seeing as McGills refurbished them.
Perfectly believable, the Arriva 57 plates also had 3? years on the airport run which should be rather kinder on the interior than local service work. Can’t remember whether it was Arriva or McGills that did the initial reconfiguration and removed the mega luggage racks

McGill's took the luggage rack out when they refurbished them I believe. When McGill's inherited them from Arriva the luggage rack was still in place.

No, Arriva removed luggage racks and installed additional seating. 4402-4411 received an additional Buggy Bay with tip up seats, whilst 4401 received only additional seats. 4401 and 4410 received Arriva Moquette retrims, and the rest of the batch retained their E-Leather Seats.

They all still carry one luggage rack over the wheel arch.

Doubt the 6 is getting anything newer , would need to be low height to .

The e400s are intended for the 6 and should all be on the route but does not seem to be the case , e300s and Eclipses probably make off half of the 6 .

Normal deckers should run on the x8 , 9 and 77 . Only really the 9 rarely has deckers .

I’m not a frequent traveller on the 6 so I’m unsure of how busy it is. Does this route really need deckers? I know it ran as single deck with the Scania L113s and L94s for a good few years but I’m assuming there’s a reason the purchased Nordic’s for it back in the day and then low height E400s.

The 6 gets very busy through the southside out to Clarkston. My gran used to live in Stamperland and back in the early noughties (when there was competition from one of the cowboy firms), there were lots of extra buses between the city and Clarkston Toll. Remember Ailsas on these short runs. If it went back to single-deckers they would have to run additional peak buses to cope.

Looking on the grand scale of things - of course Glasgow’s population has increased over the past decade - what frequent services could possibly run as single deck?

The 2 seems to operate quite well as single deck. Many buses during peak time can be full, however due to the length of this route passenger loads can be scattered between 2 or 3 buses as they are run so often. This route has always been single decker intended for some reason. I don’t think new deckers were ever bought specifically for this route, of course deckers made it on to these routes because Parkhead had them. Prior to this the 61, 62 and 40 all received the same buses compared with now the 2 has singles and the 61 and 60 share buses almost.

Yeah , remember it was mostly Scanias . It does need deckers as the buses bunch up or big gaps between buses . Its usually quiet during the day . I think for improvements id have some later buses as they can be very busy or unreliable . Id also have earlier ones . Id say the south section of 6 is a bit busier , though its well used up GWR road .

I remember about 2007 there was Caledonia Buses on the 66 , they would run from Busby to City only bar a peak extension to EK ( dont think they were allowed into the bus station) . First had Busby to City Shorts to . I think from Busby into the city the Freq was every 5 mins. As soon as the caley 66s stopped the busby shorts stopped .

The 66 and 6 has varied in freq from every 7 to 8 mins to every 12 mins as it is now .

What has surprised me is the route has not been split like the 18 or 20/21/31

Dont think the 2 should be singles , the problem is overcrowding when buses have gaps from the 2 but other services too . Seen it along the Gallowgate . Im sure there was more deckers when it was 62 .Unless it is every 5 mins with great punctuality then you are going to get problems .

Yes – it was Caledonia Buses that I was thinking of. Loads of white metroriders. They were a bit mad really – made Citysprinter look good. They ran up to Glasgow Uni for a while and would do u-turns in University Avenue to get ahead of the First 44. The 66 shorts I remember went to Sheddens to turn – the Ailsas wouldn’t have got under the bridge at Busby – but they probably went to Busby at other times.

I’ve often thought the service should be split, probably as EK to maybe the bus station or Anniesland and Clydebank to Caledonia depot or maybe something slightly south. That would give a super frequent service on the centre bit while keeping a decent service at the extremities. Doing Anniesland to EK would mean the unpredictability of Great Western Road would still affect the southern half though

Ailsa 66s , didnt they terminate near Carolside before the new Williamwood school . Speaking of Busby seen a VO and Gemini parked up other side of station !

Still is Busby peak runs . See depot run 368 in the Morning , Busby via Croftfoot , puzzles me as if anyone uses that i assume the bus will park up before Busby before commencing service .

I think quite a few use it between Southside and West End . GWR is a nightmare for buses , only the 6 and 6A now . Muirend to Clydebank or Ek to Bus Station

Can confirm the new buses Overtown are to get will be used on the 241 service and not the 242 also there will be 12 for Overtown rather than the previously stated 8.

The website only stated single deckers were coming for the 34/34A, so I suspected that it had changed.

The 34 has had deckers on it in the past but think it changed route and theres a low bridge somewhere .

It's on Titwood Road just before Pollok Park. The 34 used to use Mosside Road to avoid, but First Stop started running the direct quicker route and First responded.

I'd guess this means the buses which would have been coming for the 65 are now going to Overtown for the 241 instead? This lines up with buses for the 65 not being mentioned on the website.

Not sure where is not getting the buses just know the 241 is to get 12 instead of the 8 which were for the 242. The buses are expected to be here by the service change on the 26th of November

As much as it’s nice that Lanarkshire local services are getting more modern stock - I’d have thought the priority would be front line services (ie via the City Centre). I mean there is still so much older stock on busy services (the 8, 60, 41 etc).

I believe the bext batch of 75 buses in 2019 will upgrade the 60 (which has been mentioned) and no doubt other services running into the city.

Any idea what's changing next month in Lanarkshire? Presumably (given the routes changing and the choice of routes for new buses), this is in response to JMB?

Not officially. Talks are on going about what is needed to cover everything however all the managers at that event did make clear more are coming.

Giles was in ear shot of all the managers telling the public mores buses are coming next year.

So, could be 75, 25 or 150......

I wonder if Giles (or First Group) will still be around in 12 months time.
