I wonder if it would make more sense to have it in bodyside livery as per the cab door on the DT to help prevent passengers from trying to use it? I wonder if there'll be issues with passengers unfamiliar with the stock pressing it and panicking that they can't get on? We already know so many who are too blinkered to look at departure boards or notice out of use stickers....
The first 2 set arrived with grey doors and sets since have been silver, the first 2 sets will to be wrapped.

It has not been great recently on getting stock on the rails into revenue earning service has it really. The guys who delivered the infrastructure on Crossrail must feel pretty aggrieved about how the stock and signalling has pushed everything back so far.

That must be one of the early sets built - the crew door is the wrong colour.

The later sets have the crew door by the loco painted silver like the body side is.

The early sets will have the door colour changed when possible to do so.

There is a photo on facebook by @mikemcniven showing one of the later sets with the silver crew door

But the infrastructure is nowhere near ready either - only a few of the core stations are anywhere close to completion, and it's looking increasingly unlikely that a 2019 opening will be possible. Delays to infrastructure have caused delays to testing, and testing impacts infrastructure completion. All the separate project element contingencies are impacting upon each other, to the point where it's become impossible now to give a revised completion date.

very timely arrival too. Reliance, the nearer of the locomotives in the photo. The other trailing locomotive had uncoupled and left Scarborough station by the time I had done my shopping
Lovely image. Are platforms 1 and 2 out of bounds, it looks as though there’s some kind of chain across.

Driver training seems to be stepping up a bit at York, there were six return trips to Scarborough on 31st December, picture below of the final working to Scarborough at 1800.

68023 in the company of 185121/120 at Siemens York depot on 01/01/2019, viewed from the NRM car park. 68027 is out of view coupled to 68023.

Only 9 useable doors for passengers. The one next to the locomotive is staff use only.
The question has to be asked: why?

It just results in longer dwell times on a route with some heavy loadings.

... versus 6 doors on a 3-car unit. Which is still three more doors than before.

Not if the doors are opened by the driver...
185s (and all Desiros) are exceptionally slow opening, seemingly due to interlocks.

Simple: The Guards' office is located by this door, as is the kitchen area. This area is not for public use.

Doesn't help that 185 doors can't cope with canted track, as demonstrated at Batley every other hour.

They manage perfectly well at Berko on 350s and it's the same kit, strangely.

Slow release on Desiros is mainly because the guard has to faff about opening the local door, getting out, looking around then releasing, sometimes having to complete a financial transaction before they do. Driver release is needed and would solve this.

Well there must be something making a difference because 9/10 times a 185 stops there, the doors need a bit of help to open fully.

The door issue (on any kind of cant) on 185's happens randomly at multiple stations such as Garforth, Slaithwaite, Batley and Cottingley.

(The doors will often only open by a couple of inches and won't spring open the rest of the way fully. This doesn't happen to all doors, just enough to keep you on your toes and varies by unit.)

It wasn't always like this though. Long before they were put onto stoppers, the problem was a persistent one at Garforth (east bound). But only about 2 to 3 years into their operation on the route.

I remember when it started happening more and more often we were told to keep reporting the specific doors that did it to maintenance.

After a while, the message from above switched to "make an announcement on approach and walk down the platform if a door doesn't fully open."

It slowly became the new normal.

Things must've changed since they went on the stoppers then, because I've never heard announcements about it. Just occasionally guards telling folk to "give it a shove".

All the Conductor competency managers are gone now. They were the ones reminding us to do them.

Most guards forget to make them now. (I freely admit I sometimes forget too!)

Do we know what is being done about this problem? Is it causing extended dwell times? If it is, it needs sorting. This is a busy intercity line and the timetable is fragile enough and a mess without new and additional problems like this coming into play.

Did anyone else read that in a heavy Yorkshire accent, with an undertone of "Not that Southern[1] rubbish again, just give it a good old Yorkshire shove"? :D

Just a reminder this thread is about Mk5 progress not 185s; anyone is more than welcome to discuss 185s but please create a thread (or use an existing one if there is one) thanks :)

Thank you, I took a video as well. Reliance has now left Scarborough now, it turned up at platform 2 in York station yesterday evening. It is not just platforms 1 and 2 which are restricted, I think the other platforms are chained off after you walk so far down the platforms. Shame because platform 1 is quite relaxing at its further reaches.

The 4 mark 5's with the DVT and a Class 68 all in TPE livery is probably the smartest setup on rails in the UK at the moment, it looks amazing. The Class 800's and Class 397's look smart, but this is smarter.

Many thanks for that. I had hoped to get a picture with the long bench in view, but you’ve saved me a waisted journey! I did see Reliance at York on 03.01.2018 working 0B70 to Scarborough and stabled in York platform 2 this morning. Thank you again for the Scarborough info.
