Six weeks is the rule, no training without that notice period given.
Many thanks for that, appreciated.

I notice the SO 5T85 Longsight-York and subsequent York-Scarborough shuttles are cancelled for 22nd June and 29th June. The diagram for 06th July isn’t cancelled (as yet!).

If the six-week clock starts ticking today, that puts us into August before anything much happens.

Fingers crossed that some of the SO York-Scarborough turns might still produce but it certainly starts to look like September/October before we see Nova 3 in regular service...

The rules of the railway industry are (nearly) all justified by the need for the safety of the train and its passengers/freight. How is this six-week rule justified?

Given the very varied hours that drivers work, I suspect the rule is to enable them to plan their lives outside of work. I think it’s worth remembering that TPE operate 24 hours a day.

For people in an office and working say 09:00 to 17:00 everyday, it usually wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect them to undergo some training within those hours at fairly short notice.

A driver booked on at say 20:00 and with a duty ending at say 04:00, might well have made some personal arrangements several weeks in advance to fit with that schedule. Suddenly switching to a training run, say 08:00 to 16:00 might be troublesome.

I don’t actually know the reason behind the rule, hence my question about if a driver is happy to switch then are they allowed to, I wasn’t in any way questioning the reasonableness of six weeks notice.

I assume many of these drivers would have started training before the courses were suspended. Will they have to start from scratch?

It's an eight day course which requires you to work rest days and outside your normal working hours, it's a courtesy to drivers so they can organise their lives. Childcare is an issue for many so a bit of notice helps so we can sort it out properly.

There were only a handful of instructors affected. No courses have been run for drivers yet.

I think patience is the key here, it will happen, but perhaps not as quickly as everyone would like, especially TPE's hard pressed passengers.

Set 5+2 are in store and going into secure store so will probably be the last one to get commissioned.

Just secure and might be joined a couple of new sets soon as everything is finished now and I think Spain want the room

These are the 2 Mk5a sets coupled rear to rear in storage at Basford Hall, Crewe that @ Erniescooper has said are going to Longtown, Carlisle for secure storage on Friday.

I quite understand, but surely that shouldn't stop a request for volunteers for an earlier course. After all, by the time the six weeks are up, we're into school holidays and childcare will be even more awkward.

I wonder if the ‘no further date offered’ was down to TPE wanting to see all the latest software/brake mods settled down and with a substantial mileage FFR in the bag? I wonder too if they put the bar back to 4000 miles? That would certainly fit with the extensive running of 68031/TP04 over the past 14 days.

Is the 6 weeks a union rule, a matter of courtesy to staff, or working around other diagramming needs? Provided it’s not a union rule (and of course nothing wrong if it is!) then perhaps the instructor training might start a bit sooner than six weeks?

Or this latest set has failed it's FFR and had to start again from scratch.

Test Trains/FFR
Test runs/Fault Free Running continued two days this week. Does anyone know if TP04 has been accepted by TPE? With the extra 1000 miles this week, I make the total for this set just short of 4000 miles since the runs recommenced in early June. Is TP04 now at Crewe LNWR?

Happy to be corrected on anything here:)

I wonder if they were the night braking runs with TP11 referred to earlier?

Yep that was Set 11 out last night and should start FFR next week, Set 4 is finished with FFR and should be handed over next week but I’m not expecting it to move from MID straight away. Sets 7, 10 and 12 are either in the country or not far and should put in an appearance in the next couple of weeks.

Many thanks for that, greatly appreciated. It seems like the ball is now in TPE’s court;)
