This is interesting.

I could take the view. This will be the way things are going to be. Short forming constantly as things go wrong. But I assume the train would be cancelled had a 9 car had the same fault so maybe 2x 5 car is the way forward? at least the train runs and people from Leeds and Wakefield get from A-B. (Yet to be convinced as I normally end up in the set with no crew).

Disabled toilet leaked and has flooded the vestibule and damaged the carpet which has come away from the floor.
There was a plan to swap it for a Mk4 later in the diagram....... Unsure if will still happen as a fatality at Carlton has just occurred

Quite a lot of trouble with toilets in my experience.

I was on the 1300 King's Cross-Edinburgh the other day and the disabled toilet in coach L shut it itself down the moment I walked through the door. I went away and came back 10 minutes later on staff advice and it was okay. It's just like the Caledonian Sleeper mk5s - why have train toilets become so fussy and unstable in the past couple of years? The technology can't be any more complicated than is fitted to a Pendolino or Transpennine 350, and how often do you have trouble with the toilets on them?

Can anyone tell me, please, whether it is planned that any 5 coach sets (obviously and hopefully in multiple!) will reach York and even further North. I can’t quite work out what it is intended to operate them on apart from the Lincolns. Thank you

Staff were told that 5/10 car sets would never operate north of Doncaster.

A 10 car did operate to Newcastle the other week, but that should never of happen as working practices and briefs to stations north of York have not been issued.

However company is now saying to staff that 10 cars will operate north of York to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Tickets were on sale for a 10 car set to Edinburgh on Saturday 26th, but it has now been changwd to unknown stock.

I don't think lner actually know what they are going to use 5/10 cars on, apart from 5 cars on Lincoln.

There was a suggestion that the 5 cars would be used to operate West Yorkshire trains splitting at Leeds - so 10 to Leeds splitting for 5 to Harrogate or 5 to Bradford with 5 staying at Leeds for the next service coupled to an inbound train from one of those stations.

However it has also been suggested that Harrogate services will be full length instead not splitting at Leeds.

If regular through services to Middlesbrough or Sunderland come to pass, you might expect splitting 5+5 to be involved on these. Remember however that there are only 10 5-car 800s.

Don't think its been mentioned but 800201 went the Aberdeen last week for presumably crew training.

How many 800s/801s are now on the mainline?

Network Rail have just relayed a disused siding on the north end of Harrogate station this weekend to take 10 IET carriages. It will take a double shunt to enter and exit the siding as the entrance is at the south end, so not the easiest as both platforms are in regular use now. If it was made into a loop it would be easier to enter from the north and not just from the south. It still has an upside down sleeper as a bufferstop at the north end. As I said earlier, LNER intend to run 9 and 10 cars through to Harrogate and not split at Leeds.

Why are they numbered as they are?
9 coach electrics are 801 201 etc
9 coach bi-modes are 800 101 etc
5 coach electrics are 801 101 etc
5 coach bi-modes are 800 201 etc
Why didn’t they number all the bi-modes (for example) in the 200 series?
Very confusing when getting on at KX when you have not got a reservation unless you know all the numbers exactly!!!

Maintenance purposes, most likely. If they see a 5-coach "201" Azuma, the Hitachi team will know it's a bi-mode. Likewise, if they see a 9-coach "201", they'll know it's an EMU.
Also, each individual vehicle in an Azuma has the unit digits as the 3 end numbers. For example, 801201 has 9 coaches; 821201, 822201, 823201, 824201, 825201, 826201, 827201, 828201 & 829201.
800101, meanwhile, has numbers in the 81x101 series (811101, 812101, 813101, 814101, 815101, 816101, 817101, 818101 & 819101).
Perhaps in hindsight numbering all the 9-car units as 800/1s and 801/1s, and the 5-car units as 800/2s and 801/2s might have been preferable and less confusing, but we are where we are.

I had stuff (two bottles of Harrogate Spring, one full and one empty) fly off my table on an Azuma between Newcastle and Edinburgh today. I've often felt close to it on especially HSTs in the past, but it never actually happened. The table surface seems to be more free running than on the old stock and the lip less effective. No harm done, but there's something not quite right there.

Are Doncaster Carr IEP Depot struggling to.meet LNER's demands? Hull-Kings Cross didnt make it to Hull this morning to start the service - not the only Azuma problem of late.

I'm booked on the 1530 KGX - EDB later. It's down to be an Azuma. I'm getting nervous already.

Fits my experience of a very harsh ride with a lot of vertical movement.

Having tried 1st and standard class I can say with certainty that the standard seats are far too uncomfortable.
