Slightly off topic and happy for there to be a separate thread on this but I believe it's directly related to the TPE 802 Nova 1 progress.

I have again checked today with TPE customer services. The current timetable for December is apparently still being finalised or at a minimum the stock to be used i.e. where it is 802 it is timed as such for 125mph between York and Newcastle / Edinburgh. This could be what is preventing TPE releasing the advance tickets in the normal 12 week timeframe, though is selling non-advance fares. I speculate that this issue is caused by TPE needing to be sure that every service currently scheduled for an 802 will be such. I assume an advance number with a cap of 185 tickets wouldn't work due to the different seating layouts. Anyone with any further information/thoughts?

With regards to seating layout differences - there's nothing stopping TPE using counted places on AP tickets until everything is confirmed. Indeed, they have been doing that with various Liverpool - Scarborough services for months.

TPE are already using "counted places" advances, where you get a reservation coupon but no seat allocation during their rolling stock transition.

I suspect a bigger issue is whether they are confident in actually having rolling stock and trained staff available to run the new timetable or whether they will have to make cutbacks until more of the new trains are in operation. Even if they can rustle up a 185 by short-forming another train there is still the problem that a 185 is only 100MPH, so it may not be able to run to a timetable designed for 125MPH trains.

Would anyone know if these are operating this Sunday please? If so, what will they be doing?

Just heard a rumour from a despatcher that TPE will attempt having FOUR 802 sets in service on Friday.

Until it happens I won't be holding my breath though.

Stupid question soz, but are the planned services for these in the East supposed to go up the ECML or do any of them go via Sunderland?

All via the ECML.

Though there will, of course, be the similar LNER Azumas running to Sunderland in the coming months.

Aboard my first Nova 1 service today. 07:34 off leeds. While I've been on 800s, 801s and 802s before so I knew what to expect interior is good. Seats fine. But the thing you notice most and you notice it straight away is how much bigger they are than your normal TPE trains. Must be only 20% of seats taken in my carriage yet 4 people still stood in vestibule blocking it up when we got on.... Very strange. Plenty of comments positive sound the carriage. Although one said j haven't been on a 5 car since last year and was none the wiser it was a different t train to normal.

I get most people don't take an interest in the railways, but I don't understand how some can literally not tell if a train type they've never been on is brand new!

Speaks volumes of the general perceptiveness of some people I guess...

I get it between a 156 and a 158 but jesus, a 185 and 802 don't even have doors in the same place.

And neither do a 156 and a 158.
They both have end doors and gangway connections though to a normal I can see relative similarities in comparison to between a 185 and an 802.

Took my wife years to work out the difference between the two and consistently recognise them.

I see Scarbrough making the perfect stand-in for MAN, with it's massive train shed full of pacers, congested side platforms, wait a minute... ;)
Good point, well made. I also notice that the train interior is a Nova 3...:)

Great advert! Well done whoever put that together. Put a smile on my face that did.

It is indeed quite cool, though I'm not sure they should be promoting playing records or tablets out loud or stashing bags in the vestibule- all three of these pieces of misbehaviour are (light heartedly) shown! :D

Yeah those novas look a hell of a lot nicer than 185's...

Someone's going to have to probably double the order of 802's because there's probably so much suppressed demand that is going to start hitting the rails again.

Once the new stock is reasonably reliable, I wonder if this will make Transpennine Express profitable...The new stock is lighter and carries more people per driver/conductor and other train staff.

Less overcrowding should result in less delays and the 802's have both a higher top speed and the ability to run on electric power, which should save on fuel costs.

Yes, this.

For the first time since the last use of LHCS on the route, TPE has proper InterCity rolling stock with a ton of capacity...the thing is, people will I'm sure have been driving because of how grim travelling by train (fighting over seats and standing with your head in someone's armpit) had become, and coupled with the trend in young people away from learning to drive I can see there being a LOT of suppressed demand there.

I reckon two more coaches on each set should do it.

Completely agree with all the positive comments about the advert, it definitely brought a smile:)

I particularly liked the railway photographer part, I think they were spinning round to catch the Class 68 on the back;)
