As there was disruption and she chose not to travel (well not use her ticket anyway) she is entitled to a full refund of the ticket despite APs usually being non-refundable.

Thank you for that ainsworth 74.

I will let her know.

Isn't TPE running to Edinburgh a franchise commitment that may have been insisted on by DaFT?
Whilst sitting on York station last Thursday I noticed the 8-13 TPE NOVA1 to Newcastle (late again !) had Edinburgh showing as the final destination on the coaches !.

The cancellations haven’t just happened “recently” as the TPE spokesperson says - problems have been going on since May 2018. How will the new trains solve all the delays to services en route?

I have used the line since the 1970s and don’t ever recall services being cancelled in the old days - maybe in times of severe weather, but even then they seemed to battle their way through.

The 0738 was meant to start from York at 0837 instead. The unit was still in platform 2 when I got there to get the 0852 to Manchester Airport (I normally get the 0844 XC, but this was cancelled, presumably due to yesterday's ECML issues). I think it eventually departed 20-25 minutes late.

Transpennine Express must be on a mission to devastate the service to the extent that it is completely unusable. Wait until a time of year when lots of people are travelling, and it's cold outside, and then they have got really stuck in to presenting a random array of cancellations, trains that stop short, and those that run are frequently delayed.

I've been staying back in Huddersfield for the last 5 days. My girlfriend came over for the day on Saturday and was booked on the 2052 back to Liverpool. She ended up getting the 1922 (which was 18 mins late) as she was worried about getting home. Its a good job she did as both the 1952 and 2052 services were cancelled. The TPE staff were helpful and accommodating, but this is no way to run a train service.

I'm now on the 1022 from Huddersfield, which was 12 mins late. It's beyond a joke!

TPE reliability is seriously starting to get worrying on the Manchester - Scotland services, looking at journeycheck today, several services are being started/terminated at Preston.

For example, the 1710 from Glasgow is being started from Preston, therefore missing out the majority of the route. In my opinion this route is seriously unsuitable for TPE.

TPE are going to self destruct itself soon nearly every day services are cancelled or turned short of their destination, this is no way to run train services at all. No wonder passengers get annoyed and upset - TPE used to be a company you could really trust to get you where you wanted to go, now it's pot luck where you end up.

These niggly delays seem to be the norm on the north TPE route, it's very rare for a train to be on time to the minute. The new timetable does have dwell times inserted at many stations including Huddersfield, which should improve these. It just requires enough units and crew to be available and trained

They're in good company though. Northern and LNR are equally hopeless.

This illustrates how totally out of touch they are as an organization. Just abysmal.

More total chaos with the services at Scarborough this morning.

A body was found on the track at Eccles this morning. I understand too that there were signalling problems at Malton.

TPE ran the following at short notice using 68030 plus TP12:

1Z85 12:00 Scarborough to York
1Z86 13:02 York to Scarborough

Pleased to report that things are looking up from the December timetable, at least as far as Scarborough (SCA) is concerned.

  • Trains will additionally call at Stalybridge (SYB) and Garforth (GRF), reconnecting SYB with Liverpool Lime St (LIV), and reinstating GRF's fast journey opportunity to York (YRK). GRF remains connected with Hull (HUL) through Northern’s extended Halifax (HFX) to HUL service;
  • Trains are retimed to be well spaced at Malton (MLT), reducing risk of either service running late and delaying the other through the single platform;
  • There are some peak time calls at Cross Gates (CRG);
  • Trains depart YRK towards SCA at xx00. This provides a connection from the London train;
  • Trains depart SCA at xx34;
  • Trains depart LIV at xx54;
  • Turnarounds at SCA are 45 minutes;
  • Turnarounds at LIV are between 20-25 minutes;
  • Trains are diagrammed as a mixture of Cl185s and MkVa.

What's more, in the short-term, some of the day-time, off-peak LIV - Edinburgh (EDB) services are being removed which should hopefully ease up the train crew shortage issues and add an additional level of resilience.

Call it what you want, but I think it's pretty obvious that as soon as there's some mid-level disruption, there isn't enough resilience in the current crew availability. It's not a shortage until disruption hits and then it's technically displaced train crew.

The Nova set wasn't carrying passengers when it went through to Scarborough to return as 1Z85 - conductor not trained, so were these passenger trains.....?

It is the use of headcodes I find worse. Understand some rail staff only see headcodes so we could get no Gen without them. But when forum users say. “I am on 1z69” - it is annoying as the majority of us have no clue and need to look it up. They are on it so should know where it is coming from going to. But that is just me. Won’t distract the topic anymore. :)

A 1Zxx will be a passenger train so presumably they found crew at Scarborough. If it was ECS it would be 5Zxx as I think was the previous inbound train.

Maybe if TPE employed more crew to help when there is disruption there wouldn’t be so much mess... other TOCs are doing this... just a thought.

Can’t rely on Rest Day work that’s for sure.

That prompted me to look up which station was coded as WTF.
It appears that code is, as yet, unallocated.
