That is NOT even the correct timetable.. Here is the correct timetable which has the 40min service etc. https://www.firstgroup.com/uploads/node_images/Service_20_63_68_TT_Bklt_WEB 28sept_0.pdf

1728 from the Gyle then, not 1730 if we're really being that pedantic. That was the first result I had off Google which was obviously incorrect by 2 minutes for that service.

It's quite common for passengers to refer a service that's close to 15/30/45 as that time - e.g people will say the 0813 is the quarter past.

Enough! The petty bickering stops here. If some makes a comment that you're unhappy with, report it and let us deal with it. Responding only inflames the situation.

On Tuesday I was on the 15.05 from South Queensferry. It terminated at Newbridge due engine problems.
I had to wait on the next bus to finish my journey.
Maybe this was the missing bus that the complaint was about.

You may well be correct actually, and perhaps the complainant was exaggerating issues. She was a regular user prior to First taking over and I was inclined to believe her at the time. Thanks for the information! :)

However THAT bus journey does go onto to provide the journey that operates the return trip which passes the Gyle at 17.28 to South Queensferry.

That’s the 15:05 not the 17:30 as he insisted it was.

There was no insisting, I was corrected and admitted so. Also, thanks OtW for clarifying what we already knew ref that vehicle going on to operate the 1728 service. Can this be the end of the 1728 63 saga and move on to a new topic?

Yes it does but the depot will replace a tendered service within 2 hours. Tendered services take priority.

Out of interest @Baileygirl , What is your favourite route to drive and least favourite and why?
The 651 to Dunfermline used to be a good scenic route but alas no more. The 600 eastern section can be a bit scary between Broxburn and Winchburgh going up narrow roads and over the single track bridge. The 20mph rollout in West Lothian is making it harder to keep to times, especially in the evening when the running times are cut.

I doubt they will be commercial because surly Lothian would have made the commercial?

I gotta admit, thats pretty neat seeing the Edinburgh services together in that zone map and seeing all the connections one could make.

If the 20,63 and 68 prove to be popular under first maybe they will bring in commercial routes within Edinburgh?

If it wasn't for Covid i suspect First would've tried a commercial route. Looking at that map it becomes very obvious why they bid for the 20/63/68. As has been noted before First's strategy during this "bus war" isn't to over invest but rather make safe tactical moves. They know the 20/63/68 are not big money makes, but they'll bring extra passengers to other services which will benefit First in the long term.

I doubt they will be commercial because surly Lothian would have made the commercial?

@TheEastCoaster was more referring to First launching their own commercial route(s) in addition to the 20/63/68.

I'd have presumed that First would have at least put in some kind of bid for any service that was tendered in and around their area of operation (given that FSE have been running school services in Dunfermline for a while)

First Scotland East Service X38 Service Split

https://www.firstgroup.com/south-ea...s/planned-changes/first-scotland-east-service

Service X38 route split, from Monday 12th October 2020
Due to capacity issues on the Falkirk to Stirling section of the service, from Monday 12th October, Service X38 will be split at Falkirk Upper Newmarket Street on early/daytime & peak journeys.

Services operating from Edinburgh will continue as an X38 and will use the current route to Falkirk Upper Newmarket Street then extend to Falkirk Community Hospital where the service will terminate and commence the next trip. Services from Stirling will operate as a 38 and will use the current route to Falkirk Upper Newmarket Street where it will terminate/commence next journey.

We understand this will have an impact on some customers who we know undertake cross town trips, however these changes allow us to enhance social distancing on the busier section of the route – which cannot be used on the full route due to a low bridge at Linlithgow.

Please click here to view forthcoming changes for service 38/X38 and please continue to refer to our website timetables ahead of travel.

Well this is a surprise, let’s be honest did anyone use the X38 fully to Stirling From Edinburgh? Clearly the market in that group is the Stirling-Linlithgow section.

as for the Edinburgh-Falkirk section let’s see how well that’ll do. if capacity isn’t an issue for that sector

It will massively improve time keeping, and allow the X38 to better comperment the changes planned in Winchburgh.

First Bus Scotland has released a video for Clean Air Day 2020 about Euro6 exhaust upgrades which mentions Glasgow, but it is FSE's 67782 that is shown receiving the upgrade.

Indeed, they're DAF DB250s.

Not my photo.

heard they’re on loan for the 38/X38 but unsure how credible that is

Former Arriva London VLW117/118

I'd assume they are too as buying DAFs would be a big departure from their standard types (apart from the Bright Bus open topper(s)). Either way, interesting vehicles even if they are only temporary.

Are other vehicles being prepared from another region of First while these stand in? At a guess there must be plenty of spare B7TLs knocking about with all the new vehicles they've had in Bristol recently.
