That’s not too unusual. I’ve also seen theoretically impossible numbers on SWT/SWT station PIS displays, such as 13 coaches, often enough that it’s not much of a surprise. I expect RTT will simply copy it across if thats what’s in the data stream...
Possible to have a combination of 444 x1 (5 carriages) + 450 x2 (4 carriages x2= 8) to make up 13 carriages

Too long for Waterloo though (and everywhere else *). A 13 coach train formed as you suggest won't happen. The explanation is a five car train replacing an eight car one or vice versa and therefore both being allocated to the service in the data feed.

* Technically, a 13 coach train does fit at Southampton Central, Woking platform 5 and Basingstoke platform 1 but that doesn't mean it will happen.

Bournemouth platforms 3&4 could probably take about 20 at a guess.

I have walked around various station concourses at termini in the evening peaks and the number of people using RTT has genuinely shocked me. In May 2019, I was at Euston at about 1720 and had a brief walk around. I'd say 60% of people had RTT up. Have problems occurred? Yes, a few minor ones and the more experienced are learning. Because it's spread by word of mouth, this is less of an issue as people can explain how to use it. Know Your Train, or more specifically the allocations underneath it, allow the system to be a bit more intelligent about when it indicates platforms as it can track units around and that will come some point next year.

I'm a bit conflicted: if there was an app rather than visiting the website (small phone, fat fingers) I'd use it all the time. Heck, I call up the site on my iPad or laptop at home to see what's happening outside my window (which overlooks Leeds) if I see something unusual. But that probably opens up a world of pain for you as a developer (especially with Apple insisting on things such as in-app subscriptions so they get their cut if you don't do a straight sale).

The platforms at Waterloo international were shortened somewhat, not sure what they'd take now.
They’re basically only the standard 12 x 20m, but meet the current signal sighting and buffer position, so they’re slightly longer than the 12 car length elsewhere in the station. The outer ends of the 5 platforms and various crossovers are now well within the overall roof.

I have to admit I'm impressed at the attention to detail. The schematic of 444019 in particular is shown in its rainbow stripe instead of the generic refresh livery. I'm surprised they thought about those small things.

There's similar detail differences over on LNER, 800104 has it's tartan, the various 91s have their special liveries. The attention to detail is brilliant!

Aye most people just want a nice long clean train with room to spread out right now!

Obviously I’m joking though, they are yellow with that livery but that is trivial, the detail is very good and the website looks fantastic

A pedant might point out the angle of the blue is the wrong way round tho - it should be angled the opposite way, pointing south west (top right to bottom left), rather than south east) ;)

No, it's correct. It depends which end of the unit you're looking at, but the transition line always forms a forward slash ( / ).

It looks like RTT flip the image, possibly depending which way the train is likely facing (first class usually at London end). As a result, up trains have the livery showing correctly, while down trains have the livery reversed. In reality, the livery always points in the ' / ' direction, regardless of which side you are looking at.

I'm not sure whether this has been asked before, sorry if it has, but why at the end of some services is there a link to the next service that train will be operating, but not for all of them? I think it says something like "Service forms....". Is it possible to do this for every service, and if so could we end up with a way of seeing in a list the diagram for that train for the entire day? It could certainly be helpful for the general public as often a service will come up as cancelled because of a unit fault etc... but a service that train should be operating a couple of hours later will be showing as 'on time' even though it will eventually be cancelled. The same goes for if a service it does before is late. Thereby allowing better pre planning of journeys

What you are asking for is up to the planners setting up the underlying data, not something that RTT does itself - it just presents the data it is given.

Platform matching in the full schedules is usually enough to work out diagrams in any case - eg my posting of the Anglia 755 diagrams made in another thread which I derived from RTT solely by matching up platforms and movements.

The point is that most fleets are now operated in such a way that platform allocations are fairly accurate in the underlying data and formal linking information doesn't add much, not that it isnt helpful when available.

What you are asking for is up to the planners setting up the underlying data, not something that RTT does itself - it just presents the data it is given.

Platform matching in the full schedules is usually enough to work out diagrams in any case - eg my posting of the Anglia 755 diagrams made in another thread which I derived from RTT solely by matching up platforms and movements.



The point is that most fleets are now operated in such a way that platform allocations are fairly accurate in the underlying data and formal linking information doesn't add much, not that it isnt helpful when available.

I’d say there’s still too many mistakes in platform numbers to be able to do it, at least not without at least some inside knowledge.

Yes, I imagine that is true and equally there might be on the day changes in schedules that happen even where is planned linking in the data feeds.

I'm not sure whether this has been asked before, sorry if it has, but why at the end of some services is there a link to the next service that train will be operating, but not for all of them? I think it says something like "Service forms....". Is it possible to do this for every service, and if so could we end up with a way of seeing in a list the diagram for that train for the entire day? It could certainly be helpful for the general public as often a service will come up as cancelled because of a unit fault etc... but a service that train should be operating a couple of hours later will be showing as 'on time' even though it will eventually be cancelled. The same goes for if a service it does before is late. Thereby allowing better pre planning of journeys

Quick question, I know we don't get realtime data from the Isle of Wight, but I've always wondered what the reason is? Is it that nr don't make the feed available? Or is it simply that the line isn't what you might call "digital", ie having no physical connection to the data network, in the way most of the mainland does?

At places where a set swap isn't possible then there's still a chance of the incoming service being turned around early or skip stopping to make up time. I suppose it really depends on the situation and how complex the service is. It's a bit easier now that it tells you when things are splitting. The allocations also make it easier because you can just check that it's the same train. It is quite a laborious task though.

It's very pleasing to find someone else who sits for hours deducing diagrams from RTT! I've long wondered whether if we all got together and did our local lines etc... we could compile a complete database of estimated diagrams.

There is no suitable infrastructure and it is not connected to the national system(s). Pen and paper is your friend on the island.
