Like your optimism, considering NR went through a phase of stripping out crossovers that allowed single line working. Also, with the push for green zone working across the board, using SLW for engineering works is also pretty unlikely going forward so putting it in for these rare occasions is unlikely to stack up.There is (full?) bi-directional signalling on most of the Trent Valley section (Rugby-Armitage), and between Sandbach and Cheadle Hulme.
No doubt it'll be on the enhancement list when the PSBs north of Crewe are replaced sometime this decade, maybe with ETCS.
Re-control is what it says, it isn't a re-signal.Thought this section was re-controlled to Cowlairs recently? Presumably without changing the actual signalling on the ground.
