This fits in pretty well with the fact I mentioned the 2 as well. There's been a lot of times where a bus hasn't ran and the next has been a single decker especially in the morning. It's usually standing room only for most of the route when that happens
The 1s and 3s could similarly benefit from the use of double decks too

I absolutely agree. The 1s would need rerouted to do it though due to the low bridge at the bottom of Kilbowie Road. The problem with the 3 is the reliability. It's just too long a route even with no traffic let alone Glasgow's current situation.

There's no real reason that 1s could not access Clydebank bus station at Argyle Road, then continue to the usual route via Whitecrook Street and Barns Street. Dumbarton/Glasgow Road is a developing access to the College and new Health Centre which opens at the end of the Month.

I’m sure I remember hearing that the plan pre-Covid was for the 1 to be rerouted and receive new E400MMCs but the plan was obviously scrapped.

I'm surprised they've not tried putting anything into the college again to be fair. Even the M60 or 81 could maybe work for local students possibly. Another thing I'm surprised they've not tried is working other express routes into the 1s. The likes of Duntocher and Faifley in particular carry pretty decent numbers at times.

There's certain routes that could definitely work full decker with a slightly toned down frequency. The 2 being one anyway.
Thoughts?

Does anyone know how many buses are out between bridge strikes and fires? I seem to recall a 41 branded E400MMC returning to service but what happened to YX68 UPW? There was also a E200MMC that was burnt out in Lanarkshire if I recall rightly. There was also an E300 scrapped which was invovled in the Clydeside expressway crash. Will these buses be replaced by anything or is there enough buses to cover?

The McGills 38/First 9 routes, I wonder how many buses they would save if they went all decker. Not easy for McGills mind as they have one decker.

Was in Bristol today and don't recall seeing any single decker first buses. In Glasgow there is still many E300s, some routes don't justify decker's. One thing I have noticed is the cuts to the less frequent services and less passengers using them.

You do get the odd decker on the 3. I dont think Scotstoun has many double deckers though.

Don't know why First cant put low height deckers under Kilbowie bridge. They used Olympians under it not so long ago on the East Kilbride Mountblow service.

There are low height omnidekkas with Scotland East right now but I can’t see them moving 17 year old buses to First Glasgow unless it’s a stop gap until they source newer low height double deckers.

It could be the hired double deckers and the older double deckers that Midland are replacing anyway.

If Glasgow were going to get more low height double decks, they would more than probably be new. Taking on somebody's aging fleet is not their way.

Who knows there may even be a low height E400EV somewhere in the system.

The new E400EVs are low height they're 13ft 9.

Would the low height E400s fit under the Kilbowie bridge at Clydebank?

I feel like if it could be done they would have did it before now and avoided all the rerouting.

A Gemini got stuck under it I think last month but it never ripped the roof or anything they had to deflate the tyres to get it back out, I reckon they would but I don't think it would be legal because the height of the bus is bigger than what it says on the signs.

We will just get some of these then for kilbowie bridge..

However, I don’t think the streets in Balloch would be so keen & neither Dumbarton depot..

If a gemini just scraped the bridge, then it must be just under 14ft, so why dont they change the height sign

The bridge is marked 13'6 though normally bridges are a few inches higher than what the sign says to give a bit of breathing room. It'd still be illegal to take a 13'9 vehicle under a 13'6 bridge.
