I did not realise we had one that recently. Am i right in thinking "red warnings" are rare?In November for Storm Arwen. Was a pretty bad one too!

I see you've already understandably given up travelling this evening.Due to travel on the 1852 Edinburgh - Euston as far as Preston, then on to Manchester. The Avanti website says it's still running but the eight trees on the line north of Carlisle would suggest otherwise. They are also advising folk to abandon travel north of Carlisle. I'm only going today because of the warnings about tomorrow too.
Unless I'm missing something, I can't think of any way to get south using LNER, TPE aren't an option as they go down the WCML too. No idea if there are buses or what the plan might be. Oh well, better than hitting a dirty great tree at linespeed. If, somehow, the line is clear, is there even stock at Waverley/Polmadie/Craigentinny (do 390s visit?) to run a service?
I could attempt the 1730 LNER by York but there's no ticket acceptance with TPE.
Stay safe all!

It does no such thing. Though the requirement to provide alternative transport or else accommodation is subject to the proviso that it must be reasonably practicable. Alternative transport in a severe storm could well be impracticable, but accomodation will almost always be available in some fashion. And warning you not to travel is how they establish the contractual right to actually make you accept the consequences.
Or use a hydrofoil or aerofoil if the wind is blowing in the right directionWill they put on a rail replacement bus or arrange for a taxi to Portsmouth Harbour?![]()

I’m lucky I’m extra long weekend off until next Thursday & also bought so much wine at recent 25% off 6 or more Sainsbury’s deals. Take care out there matey. After yesterday's significant winds, it was much calmer here today, with comparatively calmer gusts at more like 33mph. I even managed to get out for a cardio session this afternoon, which was incredibly welcome![]()
It seems nuts to think that in just a few hours' time it'll be all change. As best as I can, I've prepped the garden but not moved the wheelie bins. That needs doing, after which I don't think I can prepare much more for the weather.
I'm dreading the conditions out there tomorrow, but I have to say I'm surprised not to see any panic buying in the shops today. With such a big weather event, I was expecting it to be mad but it was basically a normal Thursday! Not that I'm complaining, of course.
For everyone who has to be outside tomorrow, I wish you all good luck and here's hoping everyone keeps as safe as they can![]()
I thought better of suggesting a replacement for the journey to Ryde Pierhead but now you mention hydrofoil and aerofoil........... say no more.Or use a hydrofoil or aerofoil if the wind is blowing in the right direction![]()

Translation: The most important thing that must happen is the thing that I want to do.
I get in far too much mod trouble for doing that, just like I am now lol so best not. Cheers.I'd ask what you got, but that's going off-topic a bit too much![]()
Llandudno, presumably? If the North and West shore tides meet in the middle of town as suggested it will be a bit messy....
More to do with derailing a HST at Carmont I think.
Indeed, quite a worrying unsolicited warning to receive by phone.Llandudno, presumably?
Could be interesting out there tomorrow. No worries for the trains TfW have cancelled every single train and possibly for days. They haven't committed to when they will be running again.
It makes my trip to London tomorrow a little awkward (impossible) unless avanti are brave enough ti head down the coast to North Wales. They haven't cancelled as yet
After the last big storm tfw lost quite a few trains for weeks due to storm damage, they can't afford to lose units again. I don't blame tfw for not taking any risks, plus tfw run on far more rural routes than avanti and the rural routes a lined with trees.Indeed, quite a worrying unsolicited warning to receive by phone.

Thanks for your thoughts I, I live on the Somerset levels and as an ex railwayman I helped sort out the 2014 flood damage, I was also one of the orange army at Dawlish, whilst trying to sort that out I was also at Penzance dealing with the trashed lineside equipment there.
Please give a thought to the people who have to go out in atrocious weather conditions to deal with issues be that railway related or otherwise, they'll be worried about their own homes and families as well as the job in hand and their own safety. Trust me it gets scary sometimes.
Thank you I expected as much but NRE or RTT are not helping muchDon't take this as complete gospel but I have it on good authority that Avanti are now not running anything into or out of Wales tomorrow.
Indeed. Noted that Avanti are apparently accepting affected travel tickets anytime on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.I apologise if this has been mentioned before but I keep seeing that TOCs are accepting tickets on Saturday, but there are further gales throughout the weekend. Any major work on the OHL may not be done until the winds calm down later on Sunday.
Same with LNER, accepting tickets from tomorrow for use on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.Indeed. Noted that Avanti are apparently accepting affected travel tickets anytime on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Avanti have confirmed this:Don't take this as complete gospel but I have it on good authority that Avanti are now not running anything into or out of Wales tomorrow.
Due to the strong winds forecast with Storm Eunice, we plan to operate the following services, subject to any changes in the weather forecast. Trains to/from North Wales and Shrewsbury will not operate, as the routes are closed.
