If anyone has recently been on the newly refurbished sets, how do they compare to the old ones as an experience? I do like the new design and new features such as wireless charging tables and the new ambience to give it a distinctive feel that sets Avanti apart from it's predecessor, but has it also enhanced the customer experience such as more comfortable seating and better use of the shop or is it still roughly the same experience as before?
On a refurbed set tonight (2110 Eus to Preston) Like the seats (not too hard), new info screens, charging points, wireless charging. Headrests on seats are very good also. Shop layout really good and much more space. Train even smells clean and fresh lol.Cash only though in shop tonight (apparently Internet issues according to TM) but I have food and booze anyway!

Had a refurbished set from Manchester to Euston on Wednesday. I was running late and walking through the last standard carriage to get to Standard Premium. As it wasn't rammed in Standard I decided to not pay for an upgrade and I was very impressed. Very much preferable to the existing seats and better availability and layout for power points.

Besides the wifi being not really usable (which I don't often bank on anyway), I found it to be a big step up from the old seats.

Any word yet as to their future beyond AWC? Or is it still speculation at this stage?

Still speculation. There hasn't been an announcement in the public domain. When there is I am sure there will be news here very quickly.

390154 departed Widnes to Edge Hill in the early hours of 4th June. This is the first refurbished train with a 2-week turnaround.
390157 is the next train due in to Widnes.
The full list of refurbished trains is now 390123, 390125, 390148, 390154, 390155 and 390156.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Now they are a few out and the faults and issues are in some cases quite well-documented has the refurbishment specification and other things been altered to improve it at all? I'm thinking particularly the Wi-Fi challenges, hinges on the folding tables and perhaps the the seemingly unfinished vestibules.

Wow! that is going some compared to earlier refurbs.
Is it a 24hr operation or just a normal day when they work on them?

Given the extent of the works, I’m impressed 2 weeks is all they need!

Do they all still require a week of testing before being “let out”? (Ie a minimum turnaround time of 3 weeks in total from going in to re-entering service)

I think 390154 is the first train where there has been a night shift operating as well as a day shift.

The previous train entered service 5 days after leaving Widnes so will be interesting to see whether there is further improvement this time.

The vestibules are being done as a separate programme starting at Edge Hill soon. Presumably the early trains will be fitted in around newly refurbished trains coming out of Widnes. I expect the red toilet doors will be addressed at the same time.

Is the separate vestibule programme just repaint and carpet or are they doing anything more ambitious

Fast I'm not bothered about the Wi-Fi from a personal usage point of view I would like to see card payment available in the buffet again

This is good to hear, definitely my biggest issue with the refurb personally. This will hopefully help give the "as new" aesthetic that Avanti have been advertising.

Just repaint and carpet but it should bring the vestibules up to the standard of the rest of the refurbished saloon.

The card payment is an unexpected issue with the new equipment and is under investigation.

Thanks for the above very helpful replies. Glad to hear they are investigating the card payment issues, for someone like myself who doesn't carry cash and objects to being charged for getting it out a lot of the time it's an added complication and to an extent and off-putting one when deciding how to make a long-distance journey on which I might potentially want to eat or drink on one or more occasions.

Been confirmed courtesy of Steven Knight Media that the first 2 Class 221s will go off lease next Monday,

News just in from Avanti West Coast (AWC) is that Class 221 Super Voyagers 221142 and 221143 will go off lease next Monday and will be returned to leasing company Beacon Rail. AWC says it needs 44 Pendolinos and 12 Super Voyagers to operate its existing timetable

So unless the service is going to be jacked up again they don't need the 10 807's as have 12 spare 390's daily ok have to allow a few on mtce but they have sufficient.
As well as the 390s being refurbished.

Also, this looks like 221143, despite being repaired and receiving the Avanti livery, will not re-enter service with Avanti.
